Re: Prayers for Mrs. VolTexan

Prayers seem to be working.

She's still in the hospital, but things took a turn for the better this week

Yesterday, the doc did another CT scan and informed us that the slow, less invasive healing process wasn't working, and he felt it was time to operate. Labs and images were not conclusive enough to tell the whole story, but worse-case scenario could be some bad damage inside the abdominal cavity. He told us yesterday that he'd try to get her on the surgery schedule as early as Thursday, but then he told us later in the day that he was able to get us in the next day (today - Wednesday).

After surgery was over, he came to tell me that everything went very well. There was no injury inside the abdomen, just a buildup of infection that wouldn't drain away. He's glad he waited as long as he did to give the slow process a chance, but also glad that he went in because leaving the infection in longer would have caused more problems.

Bottom line - he found no issues inside other than the buildup of infection fluid (which he got rid of), and I'm now here spending the night with her in the Surgical ICU. It was a full laparotomy rather than a laparoscopy, so it was a pretty invasive procedure, and she's in a ton of pain. But...she's on the road to recovery now!

Thanks to everyone for all your prayers and well wishes.

And thanks to Doc Wheeler for his steady hands and decades of experience that he brought to the table today! This man definitely knows his business, and he has a calm, confident demeanor that truly put us at ease. Since the day he got attached to my wife's case, he has made a significant difference in her care and recovery.

Re: Prayers for Mrs. VolTexan

Thank you all, and today was a great day for our family. With all the challenges this year, we’ve still been quite blessed with work, so we were able to provide our daughter with a great Christmas surprise.

Also, the docs and nurses continued to work their magic and my wife had a mostly good day herself.

Hope you all had as Merry of a Christmas as we had, and thank you for all the positive prayers!

Prayers for Mrs. VolTexan

Christmas has come, and it’s safe to assume that anyone still in the hospital REALLY needs to be there - and I guess my wife meets the criteria.

She was in the hospital for 18 days from 27 Oct to 14 Nov.

After getting out, she never got back to 100% due to residual fluid buildup in her abdominal cavity.

Fast forward to 9 Dec, and that fluid developed an infection, and she has been fighting it ever since. With several abdominal drains installed, it is still a slow process. We hope to get her out before the new year.

We welcome any and all prayers for her quick recovery.

AND!!

A friend of ours is in the same hospital, same floor, three doors down from my wife with chest drains in for pneumonia and a partial pneumothorax. A couple prayers for her are also welcomed.
