Re: Nobel Laureate Professor: I'm Banning Guns in My UT Classroom

This professor sounds like one of my old high school teachers - so impressed with his own record in academia, he's begun thinking he's above the actual LAW of the land. In high school, it came at a time when student smoking was the BIG issue for administrators. Some didn't like it when the students ...

Re: Ultimatum to My Wife's Store From an Anti

If I owned a small business, my inclination would be to NOT respond to the email rather than engage in a debate - after all, I wouldn't care about their political views, I'd be in business to make money off of them. If they still pushed me for a response, I'd adapt something from the replies above. ...

Applebee's again . . .

About a decade or so back, some Applebee's restaurants in San Antonio posted PC 30.06 signs. An executive for the company that owned several Applebee's franchises there gave a rather smarmy answer to complaints, prompting a backlash that reached across the country - people as far as the Midwest were...

Re: Scored some .22 LR at Walmart today

People are hording still , like JRG said ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I started to say I'll take it all . Nothing wrong with it but it's going to be a bit undependable to be on the shelf for a while yet . The situation has gone on so long that "hoarders" must be sitting on MOUNTAINS of .22 by now . . ....

Re: Scored some .22 LR at Walmart today

A few months ago the Cabela's in Buda had a modest amount of .22 LR in stock. Today - zip. Zero. Nada. Talked to a clerk, he told me they had NONE in, and he didn't know when they'd be getting more. When I asked him - politely, I thought - what the problem was with the supply, he rather gruffly answ...

Re: Hurst homeowner in shootout with robbers

Every situation is unique, but as a general rule, I'd recall what happened to George Zimmerman who for a while followed a suspicious looking person that turned out to be Trayvon Martin. Basically agree with the OP - unless the suspicious looking person was getting into close proximity to a member of...

Re: Breaking: politician lies to get votes!

Doesn't phase the Socialists at all that this lying tramp has no values. They will continue supporting her because she looks like them, acts like them and has minimum human value, just like them . . . In their warped little world, LIES are perfectly acceptable if they're necessary to accomplish ele...

Re: Walmart employee refuses to print photo that includes a

Unless the subject matter is clearly illegal (e.g., kiddie porn) a Walmart employee should be required to print ANYTHING a customer brings in. This should be made clear when they're hired. And if they don't, they ought to be fired for cause. As I've said over the years - and as others have already o...

Austin area - new Cheaper Than Dirt store

Earlier this month, discount mail order retailer Cheaper Than Dirt opened a new retail store off Sundance Parkway in Cedar Park ( Correction - Round Rock; thx, Texsquatch ), a suburb of Austin. (It's about 5 or 6 doors down from the Kohl's department store in the La Frontera shopping center.) I stop...

Re: School nixes traditional veterans 21 gun salute

Back in my day, the students themselves would have made it known - via phone calls to local radio stations, letters to the editors of the city and neighborhood papers, and maybe even an editorial in the school newspaper - that the actions of the school bureaucrats were reprehensible and unpatriotic.

Re: Gunsmith to Mount Scopes in Dallas Area

I've found that I trust myself to mount 'scopes more than I do a gun shop . . . if you have a set of Allen wrenches, a decent screwdriver, and some solvent (for degreasing the screws, tapped holes, rings, and 'scope body) you're good to go with Weaver/Picatinny mounts and rings. If you choose a moun...

Re: A real President, a Real American, God how I miss him!

I voted for Reagan - twice. In fact, during my lifetime he was the only candidate for POTUS that I was able to vote for ; in every other election - without exception - I held my nose, suppressed my gag reflex, and cast a ballot against what I thought was the greater evil, knowing that the lesser evi...

Re: This ain't your grandfather's Mosin Nagant...

Pretty good looking rifle . . . but not really "cost effective" unless the owner did the work himself. Probably as a hobby, because, well, just because he felt like it. Which is as good a reason as any. And as for "collector value" . . . unless there was something special about t...

Feeding that SMLE

If you shoot .303 British, you probably know that decent milsurp ammo has pretty much dried up for that round, which makes it more expensive to shoot that SMLE of yours. FYI, Cheaper Than Dirt has some HXP (Greek military) from the '70s in stock - brass cases, Boxer primed, reloadable, non-corrosive...
