Re: Kamala Harris

What is disturbing to me--but isn't shocking--is that the Biden/Harris campaign is now worried because a big chunk of their base is basically 50/50 about supporting Israel; the feeling is that if Uncle Joe doesn't lighten the rhetoric and financial/military support for Israel, that it could damage ...

Re: Colt 1911, max range 82 feet

A .45 caliber boolit is only 4.43% smaller than a .50 caliber boolit. You’d think its range would be more like 1,768.05 ft.

Either that, or the .50 caliber boolit's real range is only approximately 85.633 ft (if I did my maffs right).

Hard to tell which it is.

Re: Why 1000 ft lbs of energy for a deer?

I understand that 1000 ft lbs of energy is generally accepted as the minimum to put down a deer (not an elk) reliably. If this is true, why is the .44 Magnum, with 600 ft lbs or so , considered OK? Also, I've seen some reliable reports of deer being stopped by the.357 Mag at 50 yds, with less than ...

Re: Can the government take your guns in an emergency?

Can the government take your guns in an emergency? …… Well…I mean they can certainly try. OTH, if they do, the example of the mythical Trooper M. Padgett comes to mind. When you’ve lived long enough, and you’re assured of what lies beyond the veil, you get real philosophical about the value of exten...

Re: Palestinian Imam threatens America and Rome

The inquisition was 4-500 years ago and no longer practiced. The slaughter of innocents by Muslims was a week ago Saturday, and continues. Therin lies the difference. You are absolutely correct and, even as a Christian myself, I understand that. But the element of society which is either both athei...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/10/19/palestinians-us-assaults-rise-war/71211197007/ Bigotry against Palestinians spikes across the US. Post 9/11, there was the beginning of a similar backlash against Muslims. But what exacerbated it and raised it to a fever pitch was too many peopl...

Re: WSJ: Disaster preparedness on the increase

I have been wondering something, and would like to get comments on the following scenario: People have sometimes constructed a "safe room" against tornados. If their house took a direct hit from a tornado, the rest of the house could collapse upon the safe room. How would the occupants al...

Re: WSJ: Disaster preparedness on the increase

We're not hardcore preppers per se, but over the past year or so the subject comes up of just being more prepared for whatever might happen. I guess the triggering event was the big freeze in February 2021. We had no water (water well was frozen) and electricity was on and off for several days. We'...

Re: WSJ: Disaster preparedness on the increase

Over the years, I’ve purchased a balance of bulk dry food items items like 50 lb bags of rice, buckets of wheat, and bags of salt, sugar, etc; freeze dried long term storage meals like Mountain House and Wise Foods meals, and also shorter term storage items like canned foods, pastas, etc. I’ve also ...
