I got the picture off of amazon.com, where it was described as a Gen 3 unit: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0142A ... _i=desktopjason812 wrote:TAM, I believe that install is the Gen 2 version. Gen 3 has a lower hinge for charging handle clearance and a stronger retainer. I can't tell if the picture you posted is a 2 or 3. Gen 2 if you fired with it folded, you would more than likely have to replace the bolt extension or the keeper. If this wasn't updated, it would have been a harder decision to buy. With all that being said, I will not purposely try to fire it with the buffer folded. It takes almost no time to close the buffer.
I agree that this piece is expensive and I wish it didn't cost so much but the entire build hinged on this piece (pun intended). This was the most expensive part on the gun except for the sight.

Re: AR Pistol Finally Finished
I have read reviews of this product which were generally favorable, but MOST STRONGLY recommended against firing with the stock folded. The retainer thingie which locks the BCG extension in place is possibly not strong enough to stop the rearward travel of the BCG under recoil, and could be either bent, rendering it inoperable, or broken off. I like this adapter a lot, and while I think it is overpriced, I will probably pick one up some day. But I will NOT be trying to fire it when folded. I don't think it's a very good idea.Pawpaw wrote:What happens if someone mistakenly fires it while the buffer is folded? Is the bolt retained somehow, or does it come flying out to embed in the shooter's face?jason812 wrote:There's an AR pistol in the picture, it's just concealed.
I was wondering how long I should wait until I posted these but I guess I will let the cat out the bag.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that is very nice and I like it a lot!
Edited to add: You can see in the video above that the tab that sticks up to retain the BCG extension is this a thin piece of steel. It is only designed to retain the BCG, and I would not only think it easily damaged under a firing impulse, but probably dangerous to do so. In fact, at minute 13:20, the ITS Tactical reviewer specifically mentions not to fire. And at 17:55 he actually tries it and gets away with it, but then at 19:15, he shows you what damage that did to the system. So........a singularly bad idea!
