Re: To CHL or not to CHL

Well of course this debate rages on. First of all, we cannot talk about the right to vote compared to the right to bear arms, because the right to vote is not enumerated in the Bill of Rights. This makes sense considering the fact that our government system is not a democracy anyway, so therefore th...

Re: Is a Glock 19 For ME???

Since you are looking at a Glock but would like something prettier and more ergonomic AND fits small hands even better - try an M & P before putting your money on a Glock! But the problem is it's a pretend glock! ;-) Lest we never forget the day S&W tried to made a glock, and made the Sigma...

Faster to hand-deliver or mail it in?

I am taking my CHL class Saturday. I registered for my CHL online and received the paperwork earlier this week, so I will take this paperwork to the class and have it completed by Saturday. So given the fact that I am in Austin, I could hand-deliver the application to DPS office, or just mail it in....

Re: Kel Tec PF9 - How reliable?

+1 Kahr PM9, but it's like 2-3x the cost of the Kel-Tec.

A step larger and considerably cheaper is a Kahr CW9 ... PM9 is about the size of a Kel-Tec PF9 or a little smaller, and the CW9 is just a little bigger and IMHO much more comfortable to shoot.

Re: Why don't they follow the law?

Maybe a class-action suit could be used to hold the state accountable. Damages would be at least the fee for the application, and probably some blanket "mental anguish" that one must endure by not being permitted to protect themselves during the time while they were unlawfully denied their...

Re: Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Now that's an interesting point, about whether the law clarification about "traveling" allows you to carry in your car, even when your car is on someone else's property where they have posted 30.06 in the parking area. I would be very interested in a discussion of this, perhaps under a dif...

Re: Why don't they follow the law?

"swamped" doesn't cut it. There is a purpose to the 60 day legal requirement. The purpose is so that the State cannot unduly delay these applications, with whatever excuse "swamped" or otherwise. The reason they do not follow the 60 day law is that there is no penalty. There is i...

Re: monarch blue box ammo

well I put the winchester in the gun immediately after we ran out of the first 50 rds of Monarch and the differences were immediately noticeable. That day, in the same two hours, we shot the box of Monarch and three boxes of Winchester. There is no comparison. And FWIW, the WWB is barely more expens...

Re: monarch blue box ammo

FWIW the first 50 rounds I ran through my Sigma were the green box (brass) 9mm Monarch. The rounds are not nearly as hot as the Winchester white box that I have been using ever since. We had multiple FTF's and it did not have enough force to cause the slide to lock back on the last round. Also the c...

Re: Don't try to enter Mexico with weapons

Weekend after next 5 or 6 of us guys are going to drive for an hour in one car to a private CHL class, and I presume at that time, in our car, we will have probably at least 6 guns if not more like 10-12 and well over 1000 rounds of ammunition. Is that a "small arsenal"? The other day my f...

Re: Getting tired of waiting.

Well now that I think about it, even considering the background check, fingerprints, etc. they do for a regular CHL are more in-depth than the quickie background check done when you purchase a gun, it still should not require more than 24 hours MAX and there is no reason not to do the 5-minute backg...

Re: Getting tired of waiting.

when I bought my gun last month they did a background check in 5 minutes. That is not what's causing the delay. What's causing the delay is that it's a government office with no accountability. There is no incentive for efficiency. A 16 year old kid can go take a driving test and walk out with a tem...

FL license as an alternative?

I am going to take my CHL class weekend after next, with the intent of getting my CHL immediately therafter. However, given the long delay in getting a TX CHL, I wonder if it would not make more sense to just skip it and apply for a FL license instead. Any comments? Is there any reason not to _just_...
