Congrats on completing the course. Double 250s are what we all should aspire to. The ammo issue is one I see frequently with my students, to the point that I now require they have brass cased, name brand ammo (none have had issues with the Monarch brass). One of my students previously was trying to shoot steel case in her Glock 42 and had repeated failure to feed. When I provided brass cased ( and it was old Spanish police surplus) she scored a 240 on the re-shoot. Steel case has its place, it is all I shoot in SKS's, AK.s, and even a good bit in my ARs for range work, but, in my experience, many pistols do not like it.

Ditto on the professionalism of the DPS instructors. Had one at my work yesterday giving winter/holiday driving safety classes to Soldiers. Great guy and a retired Army Ranger.

Re: New Instructor Training Questions

Had a guy in my class who had never fired a revolver and brought a friend's S&W. He had a minor malfunction where the extractor rod backed out a little and he was unable to open the cylinder. Instructor showed him what to do, but he still DQ'd the revolver phase. For what it is worth, one guy had a Ruger Blackhawk single action and he had no issues meeting all the times.

Practice, practice, practice. As an instructor you should be able to easily shoot 90%+ on the qual.

My last requal was at the Georgetown Community Center, not at the DPS training facility. Carry was OK there.
