Re: Shots fired at BLM protest in Dallas
Now that the names have been released, Michael Smith is my friend. His wife and daughters are our friends. I coached his older daughter, a classmate and teammate of my daughter, for many years.

I've lost many friends, but none like this and none since I've been married and become a father and none that were married and had kids of their own.

Looks like the shooter used an SKS. I just saw that on the news.

Re: Shots fired at BLM protest in Dallas
I would have liked to seen him taken alive so he could rot in prison or at least the next 20 years before being put to death. I also would have liked for him to have faced the families he destroyed in court, but that may have been too much for them to deal with. IDK, though, maybe some of them would need that for their own healing process.ajwakeboarder wrote:Am I the only one a little unsettled by the fact that the PD used a bomb against the guy? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he got taken out and I mourn the officers lost, but this just rubs me wrong.MustangGlocker wrote:No links but heard that DPD took out the shooter with a remote detonated device using the robot.
However, there may have been circumstances that would have placed too much risk on anyone trying to take him alive, so, no. I don't have much of a problem with it.

Re: Shots fired at BLM protest in Dallas
I appreciate offers of prayers for me, but they are deeply needed for my friends' family and the families of all the other officers murdered and injured last night.

Re: Shots fired at BLM protest in Dallas
I am heartbroken for his wife and daughters. His older daughter was a classmate and team mate of my daughter's and I've coached her in softball for many years. His younger daughter is a Daddy's girl. I can't even imagine what they are going through this morning.

Re: Shots fired at BLM protest in Dallas
I lost a friend last night. He leaves a wife and two daughters, 14y and 10y. He was only 2-3 years from retirement. He didn't talk much about the job. I knew he worked at Love Field before, but didn't know he did foot stuff and didn't think he would have been anywhere near that last night.
Extreme sorrow and anger is what I'm feeling this morning.
