How does this statement (Or is it your opinion?) align with the SCOTUS decision in 2005 that says the police have no constitutional duty to protect an individual from harm?

Is it a difference between constitutional duty versus the obligation or nature of the job? Especially since they were there at a school for a reason? Or would that SCOTUS decision not really pertain in this case since it was not really an individual per se, but rather the student body and staff as a whole?

I actually think Bergdahl is worse. He actively deserted his post. It would be similar if the Deputy had seen the shooter and then ran away. However, it was still Peterson's duty to go in to see if he could save people, and he didn't. But I still think Bergdahl is worse. I still think he should have been executed.
Well, Bergdahl as bad as he is didn't desert while his buddies were under fire.

He just snuck off in the dark of night when all was quiet.

He should have been hung or gotten life but at least he wasn't hiding while his buddies were under fire and dying.

Word is, those kids looked up to and admired Peterson and no doubt were wondering where he was while they were bleeding and dying.
:iagree:
And that is why I think this deputy is worse than Bergdahl.

Re: Deputy Scot Peterson

It looks like that sheriff has some more explaining to do.

https://news.americanewscentral.com/201 ... y-saying2/
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel has been all over the news advocating for gun control in the wake of the shooting at the Stoneman Douglas high school that claimed 17 lives. He has come out against people being able to protect themselves at schools and against arming teachers. But meanwhile, while he’s saying that teachers and staff shouldn’t be able to be armed, his deputy, Nezar Hamze, who is also the leader of the local chapter of CAIR, is teaching mosque members to arm themselves and how to respond to active shooters.

That doesn't appear to be a question, so I'm not really sure what your point is. Maybe some people are, but I think that is unrealistic. I'm upset because he didn't even try.

Re: Deputy Scot Peterson

He should have gone in. I don't care what his training was. I don't care how close he was to retirement. I don't care if all he had was a collapsible baton. He was better armed than anyone else in that school being murdered and using their bodies to protect others.

Keep in mind that the SCOTUS ruled back in 2005 that the police have no constitutional duty to protect anyone from harm.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/polit ... otect.html
The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm, even a woman who had obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation.
