Re: Suggestions for insurance to cover my firearms ??

I use Eastern Insurance / Historic Firearms Insurance: https://www.easterninsurance.com/insurance-quotes/personal-insurance/historic-firearms I used to use the NRA policy, but read a lot of good reviews about Eastern Insurance and switched. They are much cheaper. As with the NRA insurance, they do n...

Re: Ranges in Houston that allow draw and fire?

The Impact Zone in Brookshire will allow draw and fire, but you have to be a member or part of an event in order to shoot there. Membership is at the sole discretion of the property owner, and he doesn't hand it out lightly. It's a really nice range and definitely worth the drive.

Re: How This ‘Gun Rights Group’ Is Profoundly Damaging Your Second Amendment Rights

I made the mistake of giving money to Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (another Dudley Brown organization) during the debate in the Colorado Assembly over magazine capacity restrictions and universal background checks. I had hoped that RMGO served a similar function as TSRA, but boy, was I wrong. Now I am ...

He is a Manager at the Rudy's in Allen. When notified by a couple of customers who were "disgruntled", he tossed it in the dumpster. As info, Rudy's (DFW) Stores are not posted. If you happen to see a sign that you think may not be kosher, check with the location management. It would seem...

Re: NICS Exemption with CHL Question

My Texas CHL does list my AK address. Unfortunately I didn't find what I was looking for before I got sick. All I picked up while back in Texas was the flu from my family!

Re: NICS Exemption with CHL Question

Technically, the answer is "yes." Since you're transferring in the state for which the CHL was issued, the federal law _allows_ the waiver of the background check. However, the key word there is "allow." Bottom line is that you can purchase a long gun here and ship it back to yo...

Re: NICS Exemption with CHL Question

Side note: My boys have been bugging me about a trip to AK. Need to do it before they grow up and aren't interested in hanging with Dad anymore. If we make the trip this summer maybe I can haul some for you. Awesome! If you are able to make it up, come as late in the summer as you can manage. There...

Re: NICS Exemption with CHL Question

That should work. Just wanted to make sure you weren't driving home with it. If this were summer time, I would load up my car with as much ammo as I could legally cross the border with and haul it up there. I haven't seen ammo in stock for the last year, except for 5.56 which is oddly ple...

Re: NICS Exemption with CHL Question

I believe you are right about that. How do you plan on getting it home? Checked luggage?
US Mail. It is legal to mail a long gun to yourself in another state, though sometimes USPS tries to tell you that it isn't.

Re: NICS Exemption with CHL Question

Unless you have something showing that you are a resident in Texas, I do not believe that any dealer will transfer a firearms to you directly. I believe that I can legally buy a long gun, unless Texas has a state law prohibiting it. When I was a Texas resident living in Alaska, I was able to purcha...

NICS Exemption with CHL Question

I am an Alaska resident with a Texas CHL back in Texas visiting family. I know that I cannot buy a pistol, but that I can buy a long gun. Would my Texas CHL still exempt me from the NICS requirement on a long gun purchase?

Re: AR lower, parts and stock kit (Houston)

I'm not sure what almostfree means by a lightweight barrel A lightweight profile barrel is the same as a "pencil" barrel or 0.625" in diameter, which is the same diameter that was used on the M16A1 / XM177 series of rifles. Unless you plan on doing a lot of sustained rapid fire with ...

Re: AR lower, parts and stock kit (Houston)

For a carbine (which is what it sounds like you are probably going to build from the parts above), I'd stick with a 16" barrel. I personally prefer the lightweight profile. That would leave you with a choice of a mid-length (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-LIGHT-WEIGHT-Upper-Re...
