Re: TAM does bullet-casting...

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you really need to practice safer bullet casting practices: 1. Wear eye protection - preferably a face shield. 2. Wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt. 3. Wear gloves (as you stated). 4. Never sit while casting. Standing, you have a much better chance jum...

Re: Bersa thunder question

Here is a picture of the plunger based block removed from the slide. The arrows show where it captures the firing pin. I stand corrected. Thanks for the great picture. My P64 does not have that plunger. My statement still stands for those who carry their P64s (and I guess early Bersa's) with the sa...

Re: Bersa thunder question

My wife has a Bersa and likes it. For her, the safety is a bit difficult to operate but I think she's beginning to get used to it. The trouble for her is she tries to use just the pad of her thumb to operate it. You need to take a more aggressive grip on the safety lever as it can be stiff - and its...

Re: Mosin Nagant- how can you not like it

Cosmoline can be a pain, but as said above, it is your friend. My method for removing it is to detail strip the firearm and then soak all parts in Mineral Spirits for several minutes. Scrub the parts with an old toothbrush, dry, lightly oil and re-assemble. Make sure you get all cosmo off before sho...

Re: Cali LEO hits BG with 1 round of .357 from 173 yards.

That is a great shot with a handgun especially at unknown distance. Its one thing to do that on a range with known distances. Moving target no less. There is a very interesting chapter in Elmer Keith's book Sixguns regarding long range shooting with a handgun (revolver in his case). Anyone into hand...

Re: Check under those grips!

Both of my IWB holsters have sweat shields but they only cover the slide region and not the grips. Its the grips that always get sweaty. I'd noticed that early on and wipe them down, but never thought about the sweat wicking under the grips. I have worn a T-shirt on occasion and as you said - it IS ...

Re: Hiroshima

Anyone who ever questions Truman's decision to drop the bombs needs to read the book Operation Downfall and then re-evaluate their opinions. The bombs were the cheapest way to end the war in terms of cost of human life.

Check under those grips!

This being my first full year with a CHL and hence the first summer carry experience, I thought I'd warn other newcomers to regularly remove the grips from their pistols and check for rust. I wipe my pistols down carefully after each time out, but I noticed that sweat was wicking underneath the grip...

Re: When did you teach your children?

I started teaching my twin boys gun safety using "toy" guns at the earliest age. They started shooting .22 when they were about 6. That's about they time they got their first BB guns. They are now 12 and both have very good safety habits and are both good shots with pistol and rifle. One o...

Re: I keep forgetting to check for 30.06

The one valid sign I've seen (at the entrance to Harris Methodist SW hospital in FW) was so large you couldn't miss it. The only way you might miss this it would be if you were visiting with someone else or on the cell phone and just didn't look at the door.

Re: More Reason To Carry - Walmart Robbery

An exception to consider would be a situation where there are known innocents at some distance directly behind the BG, which could easily happen in a parking lot, store, or any other public place. A shot into the BG on an upward trajectory would greatly reduce the risk to persons directly in line b...

Re: More Reason To Carry - Walmart Robbery

In watching the video - if you did decide to shoot in that situation, you'd need to be real sure of what was behind your target. Your rounds would have likely ended up in the next row of cars over. The only way to have avoided that would be to be extra diligent regarding your surroundings and as oth...

More proof 46.035 should apply to LEO same as CHL. Especially 46.035.d
I was wondering exactly your point. Does 46.035d NOT apply to an off-duty LEO?

I cringed when I saw them shooting from the zipline. I wonder how many times they swept their legs and feet with the muzzle. Yikes. It certainly looked challenging though!
