Re: Holster Recommendations

For my Glock 23 I have a Sidearmor Kydex IWB holster (http://www.sidearmor.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Very well made, fits the gun properly, is comfortable and secure to wear, requires minimal maintenance, and is available in several cants. Excellent customer serv...

Re: How private do you keep your CHL status?

My closest relatives know about my CHL, as do maybe one or two longtime friends. The guys at the local gun shop know, because I show my CHL in lieu of a background check when filling out the yellow sheet. That's it. No co-workers, neighbors, or strangers. Basically, I regard my CHL status as confide...

I think that's a very good point. Takes some of the suspicion and mystery out of guns.

Re: Open Carry.Org Targets Texas

Open carry. I'm still thinking about it. I'm for upgrading our firearms freedoms and so I don't oppose open carry. But it's not a high priority for me and I don't believe I personally would carry openly, given the chance. On the other hand, to put things in perspective, concealed carry is very impor...

Re: Best Austin-area CHL class

I've taken three CHL classes from Ross Bransford and can recommend him. Good classroom teacher and safe range instructor. Spends enough time on the topics, but doesn't drag out the class. Schedules plenty of classes, so it was pretty easy to work him into my calendar. I took the last class at the Lo...

Re: Post AWB Currency: Lowers or Mags?

As McCain's prospects were by no means certain, over the past several months I've purchased quite a few hi-caps for my Glocks, which are my preferred personal defense sidearms. I was caught unprepared by the last ban and won't make the same mistake this time. And if, against the odds, there is no ba...

Re: LCP Recall

My LCP is subject to the recall. Not a big deal for me, because I was thinking of shipping it back anyway due to a feeding problem. Too bad these pistols were produced with problems in the first place. But--getting past that--I do think Ruger is trying its best to make the recall as painless as poss...

Re: Tonight I cried...

I'm stunned that the people of this country would elect someone they really know very little about and that they would accept this state of affairs as willingly as the compliant media. I've heard most Americans are center-right and that most know the media are biased. So why not vote from conviction...

Re: Obama's Chief of Staff

I remember Emanuel as a leading participant in the anti-gun drumbeat that came out of the Clinton administration and reverberated constantly through the compliant media. The drumbeat was quietened during the Bush years. But I'm starting to hear it again. Too, too bad.

Re: July '08 Applications

Guys, I'm leaving the Waiting Room. On 09/25, 66 days after DPS received my CHL renewal materials, my status changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active." Four days later (09/29) the license was mailed. A day after that (09/30) it arrived in my mailbox--just tw...

Re: July '08 Applications

60 days have passed since DPS received my CHL renewal documents. Still "processing application." So much for the statutory 45-day turnaround. :rules: My current license expires just under 30 days from now. I'll see what happens first: the issuance of my new license or the expiration of the...

Re: July '08 Applications

The 45th day has passed since DPS received the completed documents for my CHL renewal. Still "Processing application." DPS may be making a good-faith effort to reduce its backlog, but I have to say they set a poor example for obeying the law. Anyway, a little over a month from now my curre...

Re: McCain's VP-- Surprise!!!!

IMO, Gov. Palin is an outstanding choice for VP. She's smart, principled (and her principles are in the right place), and she's real, not a posturing, ego-driven, Washington phony. I doubt if McCain could have chosen better. I'm for her and earnestly hope she and McCain win in November. :patriot:
