Current SCOTUS may not be reliable on next 2d am case

This week's offerings from the supremes make me nervous about the next 2nd amendment case they may decide. They seem able to ignore plain meaning at an alarming rate. SCOTUS appears to be very susceptible to current popular political whim. :???:

Re: The NRA and... who else?

Second Amendment Foundation does great work. They get my contributions. They are doing the hard sledding, and in a very strategically sound manner. My 2 cents.

Re: New online CHL application & procedures

I renewed my license online recently. It could not have been easier. They even used my same photo they had on file from my first CHL five years ago. It seems that the DPS is treating renewal in a very gun friendly manner. ;-)

Re: THE POLITICS OF OPEN CARRY

Thanks R. Davis. Yes, this issue has become very topical since the governor elect's statement. I have heard several ladies in offices say they would like to see open carry. That surprised me somewhat. I will enjoy seeing the legislative process work (or not work) on this one.

Re: Over Half will get a Diagnosable mental disorder

It is as certain as night follows day: the feds will use their new Obamacare health records power to disarm the population via a Washington mandated diagnosis of mental disorder, with the IRS and federal swat teams waiting in the wings as muscle. We are there.

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

If we start with the premise that politics is about persuasion, then we can look to Ronald Reagan as an example of a good politician who persuaded both Republicans and enough democrats to follow him with a program of tax cuts and smaller government. He inspired people, and put America first in his f...

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

Hey CPD, It's sure a drag to read stuff you write that mischaracterizes what someone else writes. Who said Cruz led the 2010 election movement? Not me. Geez, you get tiresome. Behave yourself.

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

Charles, If you are suggesting that Ted Cruz will be responsible for losing the House to democrats, I would point out the 2010 election that took the House away from the democrats. It was a similar wave of conservative enthusiasm that resulted in Cruz defeating Dewhurst in the primary last year. Wit...

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

I've heard a lot of news pundits calling Cruz' 21 hour speech grandstanding. It's a common criticism. Harry Reid, John McCain and their ilk all called Cruz names. It's sort of like calling a fireman, who's trying desperately to put out a dangerous fire, a grandstander. Depends on your perspective, I...

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

Cornyn and a bunch of other Republican senators voted with the Harry Reid led Democrats to end cloture, knowing all the time that Reid would strip out the House defunding provision. In the context of his cloture vote, Cornyn's later vote against the stripped senate bill was meaningless, and he knew ...

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

APynkel - does Texas have a recall system? I don't believe we do. Even if we don't, I don't think Texas voters will forget what Cornyn did.

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

I was not aware we have recall for U.S. senators in Texas. I, for one, don't believe in recalls. I think we make our best judgment at election time. Our next judgment, as voters, comes at the time of the next election. I think a no-recall system promotes good representative government - we elect peo...

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

It wasn't that long ago Texas chose Cruz over Dewhurst. It may well be that the same political forces that chose Cruz are still viable enough to defeat Cornyn. I liked the comment that Cruz was risking the country - as if we could not identify the risk to the country of keeping Obamacare. There have...

I'm scared of foreign students. That's one of the reasons I carry a gun. ;-)
