Great story. Thanks for sharing.philip964 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 2:45 pmhttps://www.businessinsider.com/texas-l ... ate-2021-2
Here is where the Republican Lt. Governor says I gambled and I lost. I have also read somewhere where they will make it illegal for consumers to buy wholesale. I stayed with Griddy. If they make Griddy illegal, I will not be able to make this loss back.
That is not how the free enterprise system works - Republicans.
Here is a copy of part of the Texas PUC order
“ERCOT has informed the Commission that energy prices across the system are clearing at less than $9,000, which is the current system-wide offer cap pursuant to 16 TAC §25.505(g)(6)(B). At various times today, energy prices across the system have been as low as approximately $1,200. The Commission believes this outcome is inconsistent with the fundamental design of the ERCOT market. Energy prices should reflect scarcity of the supply. If customer load is being shed, scarcity is at its maximum, and the market price for the energy needed to serve that load should also be at its highest. “
This is also not free enterprise this is illegally raising taxes.
Here is an energy trader that owns a mini generator and made so much money during the disaster that he feels so bad about it that he has donated $400,000 to a chef in Houston that has restaurants I can't afford to-go to's charity. He donated the extra $400,000 he made after the electric crisis passed on Thursday but the PUC did not remove the order till Friday morning as he must have felt extra guilty about that.

I ask this as a Direct Energy (and Oncor) customer who has been without power for over 50 hours and counting.
Also worth noting that who you contract with to purchase your electricity is also often a separate entity from the company responsible for generating it.
TXU both generates electric and sells it to end users, distributed via a grid operated by a regulated grid provider (Oncor, for example). But Cirro, for example, is simply a bulk purchaser of electricity for resale to end users. Cirro owns no generation capacity. So if you are a Cirro customer, you might get power generated by TXU, sold in bulk to Cirro, delivered to you via the Oncor grid.

Re: Electricity Providers
We switched from Cirro to Windrose 2 months ago. So far happy. They send me a weekly usage report that I like. Easy to make the switch. Live customer service people without a long hold. Their website is much easier to navigate than Cirro. Same electrons over the same wires.
Looking at powertochoose right now, I see Cirro is offering a good rate for a 15 month contract for new customers. 8.8 cents at 1,000KwH. If I could have had that rate when we switched, I would have stayed with Cirro, but, no regrets. Windrose is offering similar rates with various contract terms from 12 to 36 months currently.

Re: Electricity Providers
Looks like I'm already in a good place. The savings from using EnergyOgre.com wouldn't pay for the service, currently, but I'll definitely keep them in mind when it's renewal time. Thanks again!

Re: Electricity Providers
I'm gonna spend half of my Friday researching this. I'm not sure if I should be happy or angry with you people.
(thanks!)
Ive been with Cirro for a while now. Rates went up at renewal last year for the first time in memory. I've been pretty diligent about shopping at every renewal.
