Re: Any updates?

So they all waited until they moved passed time for comment and Schaffer started to close and then they dramatically all start popping up.

This guy up now is mischaracterizing now. He's making it sound like the rules to purchase a gun are changing instead of carry.

Re: Any updates?

Hmm, not a fan of 20. That now added some cost to the bill.

Amendment to expunge the record for offenses from the past of people carrying without a license. This sounds like it's appropriately limited to cases where the firearm was not used in any nefarious way, it was simply carrying without a license.

Never would have expected that one.
I'll bet she thought she was just making a point. I'll also bet she still votes against the bill. I hope her amendment has tight language so it doesn't derail this thing but I suspect Schaffer would have looked at that already.

It's the third POO on the bill so far. They are sprinkled in along the way in between all the amendments.

They are not talking publicly right now. They are dealing with a Point of Order and then will come back "online". Notice just above the bill number it says Point of Order. That changes to the amendment number they are dealing with when to are going again.

Schaefer not supporting.
While there are merits in the argument, it sounds like this is one of those places where you go for what you think will pass vs an ideal. I suspect this amendment would be a poison pill. Let's get constitutional carry passed. Then it can be improved where needed like CHL was.

Soccerdad1995 wrote: Thu Apr 15, 2021 12:28 pm Do I understand the current discussion correctly to say that oral notice would be required regardless of signage? I like that.
If you mean amendment 3 no that's not what is said. What's being said is that it would be a class A instead of class C if you walk past a sign. Currently it would require notice and still not complying to raise to a class A. Not a good amendment.

KC5AV wrote: Thu Apr 15, 2021 11:58 am What is the point of order? I had to step away for a minute.
I have not heard them explain it. I heard point of order made and people were called forward and then it went silent. Just a couple of admonishments to the gallery to keep quite, sounded like some protesters. They were told if they did it again the gallery would be cleared. It's been silent other than that.

Permitless Carry will be the first main bill for debate after the 3rd reading bills.
Loving this exchange between Reps. Schaefer and King.
Schaefer is really doing a great job.
Sherman makes it sound like the bill requires people to carry, which of course it does not. Referring to "the talk" and implying this will cause more black deaths at the hands of police.

"
Does that mean, if this passes into law, that the handgun will no longer have to be concealed, as long as it is holstered?
That's how I read it (for a license holder). My understanding is that currently, a license holder can open carry in a car (or outside the car) as long as the handgun is in a belt or shoulder holster. This new phrase adds that for a license holder, it's lawful for the handgun to be visible as long as the handgun is in some type of holster and both the holstered handgun and the license holder are in a car.
