True, and with HB823 you can have it concealed in the car as well once it goes into effect.

Unfortunately deferred adjudication counts as a conviction for the CHL statute. That is unless it was expunged or pardoned. With good hollowpoint ammo you don't have to worry about that. Most HP ammo in calibers like .45 probably don't even expand.

If cost was no factor I'd probably get the Kimber. Only negative is lower capacity but only by 2 rounds so not much difference. The stainless finish is very nice.

That does bring up an interesting scenario. You would have a good defense if your gun was concealed in your car and you were prosecuted for 30.06, however if it was concealed then they wouldn't find it eh? :wink: In theory though it seems your situation would default to the protection of 'traveling'...

I think it's just a feel-good pro-military bill. I imagine most people would rather just shoot the course than bother with the extra paperwork proving they've had some other training.

I think the largest benefit of this particular bill is the fee reduction for military personnel. 50% is a big cut for Texas' high fees.

Texas law cannot supercede federal law on FFL purchases. However, 18 year olds can already possess handguns, they just can't buy them from a dealer. So yes it'll have to be a gift or private sale. I think the ammo may work the same.

Yeah if it's an 'unlicensed posession' those are just standard TABC signs issued to businesses that sell alcohol that don't qualify for the 51% rule. No impact on CHL holders with that one.
