Range fires are all too common, unfortunately.
"The fire broke out at a gun range about a quarter-mile away from the school [Clear Brook HS], and smoke in the air triggered alarms at the school."
Best Shot is right next door. I've never shot there. Hope are all safe.

Sounds more like a storage shed fire than at the actual range.
Most range fires are from some idgit shooting tracers into the rubber backstop.

Has to be Best Shot Gun Range which is on FM 2351 in Friendswood as is Clear Brook High School. No idea why Cy Fair ISD was mentioned. Good ending, no one hurt!
