I don't think it is new. Seems to me that is exactly what happened with Obamacare. Consensus where there wasn't one for a solution that didn't exist. In computer application development, we used to call that "vaporware".
I'd say that are a lot of people for gun control. A lot of them have walked out of stores in the last few days controlling THEIR OWN guns.
