OCT Falsely Attacks NRA -- Yet Again

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

OCT has been factually challenged for months and it has blatantly lied about the NRA. Then, it decided to get in bed with Dudley Brown's National Association of Gun Rights (NAGR) in spite of NAGR being denounced by not only the NRA, but Students for Concealed Carry, Second Amendment Foundation, Minnesota Gun Owners Civil Rights Alliance and others. (See the reprint of my post below with links.)
Charles L. Cotton wrote: . . . In the same post on the OCT Facebook page, OCT proudly claims that it has joined with GOA and Dudley Brown's National Association of Gun Rights (NAGR). . . . More importantly, any person or organization that "joins with" or supports NAGR must not have done the least bit of research about Dudley Brown or NAGR. Here is a link to a post by the Second Amendment Foundation. Read about some of NAGR's escapades. Be sure to read the letter from Students for Concealed Carry President Daniel Crocker to Dudley Brown in response to NAGR's attempt to claim credit for a legal victory to which NAGR was not a party.

The Minnesota Gun Owners Civil Rights Alliance responded on its Facebook page to a bogus NAGR/Dudley Brown solicitation email that claimed the gun rights group was supporting gun control. "There is an inflammatory email being sent to Minnesotans by an out-of-state individual who has never actually accomplished anything for Minnesota gun rights (or those of any other state that we can see). The real purpose of this email is the same as all the rest of the emails this individual sends: to solicit donations."

This Dudley Brown/NAGR that has been condemned by long-standing gun rights organizations is the same Dudley Brown/NAGR that OCT proudly claims as an ally. I am reminded of the old adage that "one who lays down with dogs gets up with fleas." The true nature of OCT is becoming clear.

Now OCT claims that "the NRA can't be trusted" based upon a political candidate switching his policy on universal background checks. The OCT post implies that the NRA is backing Mark Greenberg in spite of his support for universal background checks. (OCT Post 10/10/14) The article linked in the OCT post doesn't mention the NRA's response to Mr. Greenber's betrayal, but it did contain a link to an article in the CT Mirror where this critical information is disclosed. As the Mirror noted, when Mark Greenberg changed his position on background checks, the NRA reduced his rating from an "A" to an "F." Below is a quote from the Mirror article including a statement from an NRA representative:
The CT Mirror wrote:NRA spokeswoman Catherine Mortensen said Friday, “Mr. Greenberg completed a perfect NRA Federal Candidate Questionnaire in 2012, when he was running in the Republican primary for the U.S. House of Representatives in Connecticut’s 5th CD and seeking the NRA’s endorsement.

At that time he told us ‘gun sales by private citizens who are not engaged in an ongoing firearms business should not be subject to federal background check requirements.’ However, Mr. Greenberg recently told Connecticut voters he supports universal background checks. As a result of his recent comment and false statement on his questionnaire, the NRA has downgraded Mr. Greenberg to an ‘F’ rating. The CT Mirror
One must wonder if OCT and it's leadership believe Texas gun owners are so stupid and easily manipulated as to buy into lies and half-truths. Do they think gun owners are unable or unwilling to learn the truth? One thing is certain, by "partnering" with Dudley Brown's NAGR, OCT has shown all gun owners their true colors and more lies and half-truths are sure to follow. In some ways this is a good thing; it is abundantly clear what OCT is and to what lengths it will go to elevate itself above real Second Amendment organizations. OCT and NAGR -- two peas in a pod.
