They found drugs and guns.

Officers used sledge hammers to search inside the walls.

So unless your a skilled sheetrocker and like to paint, tape and float, is inside a wall really where you would hide drugs?. Seems unless you were planning for long term storage, it would not be ideal.

So how many bets its a rental house. Or an unlucky mortgage company or federal agency gets to take it back.

Fortunately for this guy in Kansas they didn't search inside the walls.

I had a neighbor in NC that built a "Straw bale" home. Walls were 2.5 feet thick and filled with bales of treated straw for insulation. Apparently this is a great form of insulation, but not for me. My allergies would be year round.

If straw works, I imagine cocaine works too.

There are straw bale houses in Austin.

That says about all you need to know about straw bale houses.

If I were building a house, I would probably go with rammed earth. Much less pollen for those with allergies.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them.

I think they are coated on both sides.. no open straw.. And yea, huge R value.

I'm with above though.. Build a hobbit-hole.

If a straw bale house causes pollen issues, wouldn't a rammed earth house cause dust problems? ;-)

Legend has it, back in the 90's or early 00's, one of the canine handlers at Local LE Agency around here had a house custom-built. When he moved in, his dog immediately went nuts, and started alerting at the bathroom. Turned out one of the contractors' employees had dumped several bricks of marijuana inside the wall and sheet-rocked over it.

I can only imagine that must have been an interesting call to his supervisor...

I liked the video I saw for a concrete dome poured on an inflated form. Not practical in the suburbs but once I have enough money to buy rural land for a vacation cum retirement home, I'm going to look into it deeper.
