This was approved by the same hypocrites who won't pass campus carry for us.

That says everything voters need to know.

According to the Quorum Report (http://www.quorumreport.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), the following Senators voted against SB 905:

Birdwell, Davis, Ellis, Ogden, Rodriguez, and Wentworth.

It appears that Zaffirini, Hinojosa, and Gallegos voted for it.

The elite always take care of themselves.

They award themselves another perk, or 'entitlement', while railing against entitlements.

I guess their reasoning is that their safety is important. Gee, as strange as it may seem, that's kind of how I feel about myself and my family also........ :banghead:

I agree. It seems to me that is would have been germane to add the decriminalization amendment. He could of at least tried, even if the parliamentarian ultimately ruled against it.

I suspect there may have been some back-room agreement among the Senators not to add any amendments, otherwise there wouldn't have been enough votes to suspend the rules (just a wild guess on my part).

Stole this from the other related thread as it should be applied to all of us:
Texas lawmakers may soon be able to pack heat at church, the hospital, a sporting event or even bars. A bill that passed the Texas Senate today 25-6 would add all elected statewide officials — and even former legislators — to the list of people exempt from concealed handgun laws that prohibit carrying guns at these locations.

Certain statewide officials are already exempted — federal judges, judicial officers, district attorneys and county attorneys. Author of the bill, Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, says it exempts legislators so they can carry guns “for their own personal security” and ensure they won’t be prosecuted if they are caught “not purposefully violating the law by carrying” a gun in an prohibited location.

Time would be better spent today and tomorrow calling/faxing the House calendar committee about HB 750 and HB 2178
Let them know SB 905 guns on campus for Legislators passed the Senate ... how about us?
Please get HB 750 and HB 2178 on the calendar

Oh, they've heard from me, and they will again. My wife and I stay on campus too darn late for me to ignore this issue. I'm just steamed at this kind of "let them eat cake" attitude coming from the powers that (shouldn't) be.

Now students everywhere will worry that a legislator might visit a campus and go berserk
They won't be able to concentrate
Insurance policies will need to be re-written for legislators visiting
Police will need costly retraining to memorize all legislators faces so they can tell the good guys from the bad ... wait ... Republicans from Democrats?

Hang on folks. SB905 doesn't authorize campus-carry; it applies only to:
  • Bars (51% locations) TPC §46.035(b)(1);
    Sporting events (high school, college, interscholastic, or professional) TPC §46.035(b)(2);
    Hospitals and nursing homes TPC §46.035(b)(4);
    Amusement parks TPC §46.035(b)(5);
    Churches TPC §46.035(b)(6);
    Meeting of governmental entities TPC §46.035(c).
There are no amendments to TPC §46.03, nor any exemptions to any of the §46.03 provisions.

This bill might be useful before the session is over. (Then again it may not, but we never squander an opportunity. :thumbs2: )

:oops: OOPS That's what I get for speedreading speed-listening ... I was griping about them discussing altering fish size limits in tournaments and Patrick mentioned "on campuses" with 905; perhaps he said "This bill does not authorize us to carry on campuses"

Thanks for the clarification.

AMENDMENT:
Now students IN BARS will worry that a legislator might visit a BAR on campus and go berserk
They won't be able to concentrate
Insurance policies will need to be re-written for legislators visiting BARS on campus
Police will need costly retraining to memorize all legislators faces so they can tell the good guys from the bad ... wait ... Republicans from Democrats?
Persons involved in Collegiate Sports won't be able to concentrate ...
