WTB .38/357

Postby SRO1911 » Mon Nov 12, 2012 9:53 pm

Looking for a pocket revolver prefer s&w j frame, centennial, 340pd.... Etc. Near Abilene. For an elderly individual who can no longer consistently rack a slide.
When any govt, or church, says This you can't read, are forbidden to know, the result is tyranny and oppression. Little force is needed to control a man who has been hoodwinked; no force can control a free man, not the rack, bombs, not anything, you can't conquer a free man, at most you can kill him.

I recommend a SP101 over a J frame for the stability and less felt recoil shooting .357 in a elderly hand/wrist/arm.

Of course we all know the SP101 is a 5 shot revolver.
But no one makes 5 round speed strips.

I carry 12 spare rounds in a clip on leather cartridge carrier with leather loops. I figure if it was good enough for the Cowboys and early LEO's, it's good enough for me! :smilelol5:

Looked at a few rugers, but she wants to be able to pocket carry - she has had a little seecamp for many years but is startingto have trouble manipulating the slide.

Any thoughts or opinions on the poly s&w bodyguard? Loaded with some nice soft wadcutters it might not have the wow factor of full house 357 magnum boomnthumpers but I'm pretty sure she could lay 5 of them in someones pumphouse without spilling her fresca.

just my opinion, but here it is:

if she can't manipulate a slide, chances are she won't be able to work most DA triggers found on pocket revolvers. my wife is a young, avid work-out-a-holic and has a hard time with her S&W .38 DA pull.

could you possibly take her to a local store/range and let her test her strength on the DA revolvers, then maybe the SA on those with exposed hammers?

Ah Grasshopper, you have not heard about Tuff Products? They make 5 and 6 round Tuff Strips in several colors and calibers even for shotgun. Google Tuff Products for more info. :tiphat:

What about a Beretta 86 (or comparable) with the tip up barrel? You get the benefits of a semi-auto, but never have to rack the slide.

Owning a gun is like owning a fire extinguisher. Neither makes you a cop or a firefighter, but both give you and your family a way to hold the line against death until reinforcement arrives.

The Luger is no easier to rack than most other semi autos. Plus, there are few shooters on the market collectors have gobbled all the good ones up.

She has shot quite a few revolvers, her primary issue is not her hands ... She just has almost no strength in her left side. Not a stroke, but similar. The j frame is her choice, not something I am pushing her towards. I was hoping someone on here had on gathering dust, but so far no luck. It's looking like a black Friday trip to academy is in our future.

I agree. It may be slower, but cocking a hammer can be easier on the hands than pulling a double action trigger.

:smilelol5: Thanks MoJo but I am quite happy with the 12 rounds I have in the picture there. Obviously I was incorrect about no one making 5 round strips and I appreciate you bringing that to my attention. :thumbs2:
