Gander Mtn's new store is opening 9/29/16 at 12277 Dallas Parkway, Frisco, TX 75034.

Big selection, although not the lowest prices.

That pretty much sums up Gander Mountain.

How do these stores stay in business? Every time I go in one there doesn't seem to be anyone in there. Their prices are outrageous. I have yet to find something to buy at one of the stores.

Good question. I've wondered the exact same thing myself.

If you compare the prices at Bass Pro, Gander Mountain, Cabela's and Academy Sport's, you'll find Bass Pro is higher on nearly all of their stuff, with Gander Mountain a close second. Academy is usually the lowest, but their selection is limited. This of course is from my own research for specific pistols, rifles and ammo.

I have gotten a few good deals on items at Gander Mountain. They do usually carry a large selection of firearms, but unless they are running a sale, you will pay a little more. I have never purchased a gun from them, but I was able to at least handle some I was interested in.
I think they are trying the saturation approach to compete with Cabelas, putting in more stores in a smaller mileage radius.

I have never had to fight a crowd at Gander Mountain, even close to Christmas a couple of years ago. I guess time will tell, if they are successful, but other than higher prices on some things, I have never had a bad experience there. JMHO

1. By the way, Gander is giving away 1,000 scratchoff gift cards a day, valued up to $100.00, each day
from September 29, 2016 through October 2, 2016 (Thursday through Sunday).
Of course what you will actually get will probably be worth $1-5, but what the hey.

2. A sweepstakes is also being conducted during the same 4 day period.
1 entry per person for the duration of the time period. You must be a Texas resident at least 18 years of age.
The prize is a $500 Gander gift card, so if you won it, you could buy most of a good pistol. :-)

By the way, for those of you unfamiliar with Frisco's geography, it is just north of the City of Plano in
Collin County, in the northern suburbs of DFW.
It is a nouveau rich town of 152,710 souls and is the home of the new Dallas Cowboys
Training Facility. It is the home of the Frisco Gun Club which is a very fancy "guntry club" facility.
I've not been there, or priced any of the club's retail firearms, but I would not be surprised if Gander's
high gun prices are cheaper than at the club.

The Gander sales circular offers a very unique pistol for sale.
"Glock 42FS in .308 ACP".
That would be worth some money to a collector!

Thursday morning at 1000 AM I tried to visit Gander. The parking lot
was jammed full and there was a 100 yard line of pedestrians waiting to
enter the building. I skipped a visit at that time.

Thursday evening about 900 PM, I went back to check out the new store.

1. They have a very large section of ammo, all out in the open where you can
open the boxes and check out the rounds. Although I may have missed it, the
only caliber they didn't seem to have was <.454 Casull, spelling?>.

2. Although Gander gets the rap for having very high firearms prices, I was
tempted by a couple of handguns that seemed to be great bargains.

They had Ruger SR22 semi-automatic pistols for $269.99. These were the
raspberry ones with black. If you wanted the same pistol in all black, the
price zoomed up to something like $379.99.
Heck, I priced SR22's at Grabagun, Coppell, TX, which usually has great
prices and their SR22's were from $315 to $364 or so.

Gander had about 8 Ruger LCR's (Lightweight Compact Revolver) in a mix of
.357's and .38 Special +P's. Just ONE of them, a .38 version, was only
$299.99, while all the rest were something like $200 more.
An LCR for the price of a Taurus M85....sweet!

If anyone is in the area....these 2 pistols are on sale through Sunday, 10/2/16.

By the way, while I was there I talked to one salesman behind the gun counter
who appeared to be a newbie with guns, but then I talked to a young clerk
named Paul-Michael who was very knowledgeable about firearms. Paul-Michael's
the one you want to catch if you have questions. He knew all about FMK brand
firearms, which was a new brand to me.

Happy shopping shootists.
