They should allow as many of the teachers and admin to participate as want to, after a sych exam, not limit it to 1 per 400 students as stated.

Is that one chl teacher per 400 students a required minimum or the max allowed? That is not nearly enough.

Greg Abbott ‏@GregAbbott_TX

Do you favor law by Jason Villalba that Allows Teachers to Carry Concealed Guns?

teachers need to teach, they have way to much to take care to be armed protectors
two plain clothes armed agents per 300 kids should be affordable.
we could have em armed as backup
imo

Great news. But why 1:400?

You are kidding, right?

Do you carry? Do you use the same reasoning for yourself? If you ever considered using your firearm in defense of others then your statements are hypocritical.

I don't know how the 400 figure was chosen.

According to the Texas Education Agency there were over 4.9 million students in Texas public schools in 2010-2011. That's probably at about 5 million now. Two agents per 300 students would yield about 33,300 agents. Who pays their salaries, medical care, pensions? Then we'd have to have people to recruit, train, certify and supervise those 33K, maybe another few thousand. Then we'd have to equip all those agents with weapons, communication systems, etc, etc, and maintain said equipment. In a time of significant pressure to cut government spending, who's going to foot the bill?

Not to mention that we all have regular day jobs. By powerbtr's logic, all of us should hand in our CHLs and turn over our pistols to police buy-back programs, as none of us have time to protect ourselves and our families.

Police chief agrees

St. Louis Police Chief: We Arm Pilots, Why Not Teachers?

Just cross-linking for ease of finding in 2013 Leg session if someone needs it (like when Charles quickly needed to find a post about USACE property once)

Look closely. There is now a survey on the page asking
Do you think America needs to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban that expired in 2004 as some lawmakers are suggesting?
