Any thoughts on HB 627 - Relating to exempting the intrastate manufacture of a firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition from federal regulation?

I believe Charles has stated that these types of laws would be unconstitutional. I believe he has also said that the individual charged with a crime by the federal government would be stuck with the job and expense of defending himself in court. But this proposed law has an interesting couple of clauses.
Sec. 2003.006. ATTORNEY GENERAL. (a) The attorney general shall defend a citizen of this state whom the federal government attempts to prosecute, claiming the power to regulate interstate commerce, for violation of a federal law concerning the manufacture, sale, transfer, or possession of a firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition manufactured and retained in this state.
(b) On written notification to the attorney general by a citizen of the citizen's intent to manufacture a firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition to which this chapter applies, the attorney general shall seek a declaratory judgment from a federal district court in this state that this chapter is consistent with the United States Constitution.
I'd like a lawyer's take on all this, but these types of bills are an interesting approach to me. Anything we can use to push back against federal tyranny is ok with me.

yeh, this isn't gonna pass the Constitution test...but basically this is just saying that Texas or more specifically Greg Abbott has to defend the person who chooses to take it to the top.

I would love to see HB 627 enacted. I interpret such laws as this one (also Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, and others) as a tad more than mere legal jousting over the commerce clause.

I see such measures as constituting repeated WARNING SHOTS across the bow of a faultering federal ship of state that has veared off of its original course heading set in 1791 with ratification of U.S. Constitution.

The Obama-camp followers throughout this Republic comprised of 50 - NOT SO VERY- united member states - would be wise to respect the serious tone of such warning shots - especially in the case of Texas which geographically, and politically has in the past -and perhaps should once again stand alone as a sovereign nation state.

Maybe they are taking Texas seriously - because the Neo-Marxist Democratic (socialist) Party has recently determined that it must now focus on turning Texas into a "purple", and ultimately a "blue" state - perhaps due in part to the growing Texas nationalist movement. I expect their efforts to be primarily rewarded with increasing interest, and stronger resolve towards Texas independence.

The United States federal government has gradually veared off its course over the last 220 years. Under the present leadership at the federal level it has become apparent that a long overdue Constitutional re-set is in order. We may have to go back to the U.S. Constitution - what a revolutionary thought !

Given that the gullible electorate of this Republic has now been twice swooned ( or fooled ) into electing a Marxist revolutionary with the singular objective of dismatling the United States of America - it is time for some SERIOUS redress - or separation.
