Looking for Common Mans Analysis
For give me ..... I've kinda been poring over this legalese for weeks. What are the realistic outcomes of the OC bills in plain speak. What's the hubbub about the 30.06 signs as being game changers if they have 'em up and I don't agree I'll just go somewhere else .... easy.
Please, don't flog me ....... Learned, opinions wanted

Re: Looking for Common Mans Analysis
Short version... on OC/30.06..
If an OC bill passes, the assumption is that MANY more merchants will move to exclude OC from their premises.
CHL folks are worried that if 30.06 becomes applicable to both CHL and OC, then all these newly-nervous businesses that move to exclude OC will put up 30.06 signs and simultaneously exclude CHL, BUT.... If we can somehow separate the signage requirements for excluding OC and CHL, and leave the "big ugly" 30.06 sign as the only way to exclude CHL but allow, say a "gunbuster" sign to exclude OC, then CHL's will face less of a backlash.

See.... That's exzact the hubbub that appears irrelevant to me........ Study's have shown in those states that made the decisions to OC after a year or two the signs come down or change ?

What studies are you referring to? I'd be interested in reading them.WhiteFeather wrote:See.... That's exzact the hubbub that appears irrelevant to me........ Study's have shown in those states that made the decisions to OC after a year or two the signs come down or change ?

Re: Looking for Common Mans Analysis
The issue is that any legislaiton that applies a 30.06 sign to open carry will cause more signs to go up. This will THEN prevent concealed carry at those locaitons also. We do not want OC legislation to impact the 30.06 and cause more places to not allow concealed carry, signs potentially coming down later or not. Leave 30.06 alone in the OC bills. They CAN be written this way and it would be a win-win for all if they are passed.WhiteFeather wrote:See.... That's exzact the hubbub that appears irrelevant to me........ Re: Looking for Common Mans Analysis
This is all sounds very hypocritical to me, if a business or company doesn’t want the patronage of a 2nd Amendment supporting individual and would put up a sign to restrict the legal carry of a firearm, they can put one up now. It is their right!
If ‘we’ feel that, due to the overt nature of open carry, more companies will throw up a 30.06 well then that just show how that organization feels about the 2ndA.
And then I can choose NOT to spend my money on those that DON’T support legal gun ownership.
Seems like ‘we’ want to be able to go to, have access to AND financially support places that might not be in support of ‘us’!
Like my Daddy use to say, Let’s call a spade a spade and not a trowel, hoe, or a shovel!

Re: Looking for Common Mans Analysis
Why would we ever want to put a law in place that would cause a current gun right to be restricted more? We do not want to take two steps backward to get one forward by affecting 30.06 signs with OC. It can be done without affecting the sign and that is the best method. I am all for gaining open carry rights back, but if it any pending legislation changes 30.06 to apply to open carry I will personally call every legislator and ask they vote it down. LEAVE 30.06 ALONE!SF18C wrote:This is all sounds very hypocritical to me, if a business or company doesn’t want the patronage of a 2nd Amendment supporting individual and would put up a sign to restrict the legal carry of a firearm, they can put one up now. Re: Looking for Common Mans Analysis
First: I agree that we should push for an OC law that did not impact 30.06. That would be the best solution. No doubt.Keith B wrote:Why would we ever want to put a law in place that would cause a current gun right to be restricted more? That said.... If I was faced with a choice between no OC or OC that impacted 30.06, I'd take the second option. IMO, gaining OC is more important than additional restrictions from businesses. If a merchant wanted to post 30.06 to prohibit OC, I'm ok shopping elsewhere. IMO, the longer term benefits outweigh the short term pain.
Caveat: Anything that would allow additional government offices and city-owned property to be prohibited for CHL is a deal killer for me.
Just my $0.02. YMMV

Re: Looking for Common Mans Analysis
The assumption is that anyone who puts up a sign to not allow OC is anti 2A and that may not be true. Someone who owns a business is in it to make money. If enough of his clients tell him they will not do business with him if allows gun in his store then he might have to put one up just to stay in business. Unfortunately the 2A might take a backseat to feeding his family.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Just my 2 cents worth.
