IWB TIP for Summer

Post by RPB »

If you get a heat rash from your IWB holster (or even before you do... for prevention and added comfort)

Try putting some Shower to Shower (absorbant) powder on yourself where your holster will contact your skin. It reduces friction and heat and moisture.
(Or baby powder, but you'll get EXTRA points towards retaining your "man card" if you do that .... Baby powder works great, but has a side-effect of subliminally atracting women with the smell, and they can't figure out why they are attracted to you... :evil2: )

I use Shower to Shower powder because I can't run away from the wimmin as fast as I useta'. :willynilly:

This works great on any IWB having smooth leather or smooth horsehide or a smooth liner next to the skin, also works on all-kydex type holsters... I won't swear how well it works on any brand with rough side next to the skin, but I imagine it could help, I dunno cause I can't stand rough side on my skin, so I don't buy those brands any more, they occupy the "old holster box/drawer".

Well, you're going to have to fight me for my mancard... or not... I'm man enough not to need one, so I dont' care one way or the other. :smilelol5:

Anyway, I've been using baby powder as part of my daily after-shower regimen for at least the past 20 years. I don't know about it being an attractant to those lacking the Y chromosome, but I've been waaaaay too married, for waaaaay to long, to notice any possible effects along those lines.

What I can tell you is that if you use a powdered product like that, you will accumulate small amounts of it in your gun over time — typically around the hammer/striker area on the back of the pistol. I just blow it off every night, and once in a while, I'll get after it with a Q-tip to make sure I get it all out of there. Obviously, the guns get thoroughly cleaned after every range trip, and I've never had the powder that gets on the gun cause any kind of problems. It is a small amount, like a light dusting.

Before the Designer Fragrances or even Johnson&Johnson Baby Powder, Corn Starch saw lots of use. It still works.

I've always worn a T-shirt between me and the shirt. (with the IWB in between of course.)

I've started wearing compression tees made by Under Armour or Nike in lieu of cotton undershirts. They keep me cool and guard against any rash from my holster.

Great idea. I posted a question about this very subject on DefensiveCarry.com earlier this morning. I'll try the powder with my MTAC Minotaur.

Cheers!
