Review: Patriot Holsters OWB Kydex for Glock 43

#1

Post by TX27 »

First of all, I am not a holster expert by any means. I have only ever purchased an IWB holster by Alien Gear (the Cloak Tuck 3.0: http://aliengearholsters.com/alien-gear ... tband.html) and this OWB holster by Patriot Holsters (http://patriotholsters.net/). I searched the forums for any mention of the company and found nothing, so I felt obligated to write a review of the holster I ordered, because I feel it is really good quality.

I have seen YouTube videos claiming that all Kydex companies are the same (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XleK7uUnAyg), and that may have some truth to it, but Patriot Holsters did a damn good job, so I still think they are worth promoting. For one, you know they take their time in creating each holster because the attention to detail is outstanding. All the edges on this holster have been polished smooth and secured with aligned edges. The ride height, cant, and retention are adjustable. The options during checkout are quite comprehensive to let you select exactly the kind of holster you want (e.g., several options for the sweat guard, customizable colors, belt loops, etc.). Plus, it's "Made in Texas." :txflag:

Here, you can see I chose a Straight Drop cant with a high sweat guard, black eyelet color, and carbon fiber front and back. I really believe the value on this holster is top-notch.

<DELETE>Only one complaint: curvature. I do think the curvature of the holster is a bit extreme. I am a small/slim person and the fit of the inside curve of the holster does not match my body. It may be that a gradual "wearing in" of the holster will remediate the issue. I honestly don't know how Kydex reacts to persistent, gradual stresses on its shape over time.</DELETE>
After wearing the holster in the proper 3 o'clock position, the curvature is actually perfect.

For serious wearing, I would replace the plastic quick-release belt loops with some steel ones I ordered with the Alien Gear holster. I also replaced the stock clips on the Alien Gear one with some Ulticlips. I only wish the rivet holes lined up with my Alien Gear IWB holster so I could mount this OWB one on the Alien Gear base in order to create the ultimate IWB holster. Well, you can't have it all. ;-)

I highly recommend looking into Patriot Holsters for your next (or first) holster purchase! Patrick and his team really do a great, dedicated job!

Disclosure: I am not affiliated with Patriot Holsters in any way, nor {was I asked to provide, was I compensated for, did I notify Patriot Holsters that I would post} a review of the holster for which I paid full retail price.
