Campus Crime Alerts : Baylor

Post by DocV »

I appreciate Charles adding this sub-forum. I do not know if all schools offer an online Crime Alert web resource; however, Baylor has one on:
http://www.baylor.edu/baylor_police/index.php?id=640
Here are the contents of the current page:
Crime Alerts

Crime Alerts are posted for the current semester

The student was walking back to his vehicle when two individuals approached him from behind and one of the suspects struck him and knocked him to the ground. The male suspects were both wearing dark clothing and hoodies and their faces were covered. No other description of the suspects is available at this time. No weapons were involved in the incident.

10/29/2014

At approximately 1:45 a.m. on October 29th, the Baylor University Police Department was alerted by the Waco Police Department that a robbery had occurred at the Jimmy John's sandwich shop located at 1508 Speight St.

The Waco Police Department advised that a tall slender black male wearing dark colored clothing, armed with a shotgun, entered the business and robbed the store at gunpoint. As Waco Police investigate, the Baylor Police Department will continue to monitor the area to ensure the safety of the students who live in the vicinity of the robbery. It appears that at no time was there any threat to the Baylor campus or the areas immediately adjacent to the campus.

As a current Baylor student, I can attest that alerts are not always sent out in a timely manner. Sometimes, it takes several hours for an alert to be sent after a crime has occurred. Also, as an update, two armed robberies occurred very close to campus yesterday (January 31st).

"On Jan. 31, 2015, the Baylor Department of Public Safety was informed of two off-campus robberies. The first robbery occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the Valero convenience store at 1125 Speight Street. The second robbery occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m. at the Valero convenience store at 901 S. Fifth Street. At this time it appears both robberies were committed by the same suspect. The clerks at both locations told Waco Police that the robbery suspect brandished a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money. The clerks described the suspect as a black male, clean shaven , 50 - 55 years old, 5’ 6”, 150 lbs., wearing a baseball cap with a white or silver front panel, sunglasses, at one store a light color jacket and at the other store a green long sleeve button down shirt, khaki pants and white tennis. There were no reported injuries. The suspect left both scenes initially on foot, but it is believed a vehicle may have been parked close to each location. Although there was never any imminent danger to the campus, this timely warning is being sent to heighten everyone’s awareness and to comply with the Clery Act."

This alert was sent to students at 5:34 p.m.

As a Baylor alumna (sic 'em, Bears!), I can also tell you that Baylor PD is or at least was a joke. When I called them out because someone had broken into and tried to hot wire and steal my car on campus, they declined to attempt fingerprints because "you can't get prints off of cars."

Sic'em's post reminded me of this one:
On Jan. 7, 2015, the Baylor Department of Public Safety was informed of an off-campus robbery that occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven convenience store at 1701 S. University Parks Drive.

The clerk told Waco Police that the robbery suspect had his hand in his pocket threatening that he possessed a handgun. The clerk complied with the demands of the suspect, but stated he never observed a weapon. The clerk described the suspect as a black male, 60-65 years old, 5’ 6”, 150 lbs., wearing sunglasses, an olive green jacket with black strips and blue jeans.

The suspect left the scene initially on foot heading west to a local motel where a witness saw the suspect leave the area in a truck (unknown make or model).

Although there was never any imminent danger to the campus, this timely warning is being sent to heighten everyone’s awareness and to comply with the Clery Act.

This is a racist post! Why aren't any white people reported to be thugs/robbers?
