The Lantern reports that the Ohio State University campus-carry activist was “found dead from gunshot wounds” at a residence near campus when police responded to a shooting around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

The police report says investigators don’t think the shooting was “random in nature.”

Underiner, the treasurer of Buckeyes for Concealed Carry, testified in November before the Legislature in favor of concealed-carry legislation that would automatically cover campuses, rather than the “opt in” bill that later passed (and Ohio State ignored).
I know we gained campus carry here in Texas, but this is a grim reminder that the fight goes on in most states. It's even more unsettling that this man was a strong proponent of self-protection but was not awarded the right to protect himself in the most effective way possible. I don't know what we as Texans can do to help other states, but I want to do whatever I can until all students can protect themselves. This news is very saddening.

Article said he was at a house near campus. Seems he would be perfectly legal to carry there. He may have been and was ambushed.

I read that, unsure that it was his own house ?
at a residence...
...inside the residence
They never say it is his residence ... whose residence? someone's house he stopped at on the way to the gunfree school? They have children so he was unarmed on the way to school and didn't store gun at their house but left at home? ... More details would be good, I imagine investigation ongoing.

Prayers sent for this patriot's family. There is way too little info to make an informed opinion yet. I just hope that the left can't spin this into something to further restrict rights of potential victims at OSU.

Public Universities ... List

Above list of Public Universities does not include the Public Junior colleges/ Community Colleges which also allow Concealed Campus Carry, but Community College campus carry was delayed on the "goes into effect" date because they are slower, or something. (kidding)

50 public community college districts in the state

Thanks. Maybe I'll mosey over to use the library if I don't have to disarm any more, since 30.06/07igns are invalid on government property.

A 30.06 sign is most likely valid if posted on a building on a public university campus (Class A misdemeanor). I say "most likely" because public universities are somewhat limited in where they can post 30.06 (the signs can't have the effect of "generally prohibiting" concealed carry on campus). The same will be true of public junior and community colleges on August 1, when SB 11 (84th Texas legislature) takes effect for those campuses.

A 30.06 sign is valid anywhere on a private university campus (Class A misdemeanor). A 30.07 sign would be valid but unnecessary on a college campus because open carry is statutorily prohibited campus wide on Texas college campuses (public and private).
