Interesting article about Bonnen

Post by flowrie »

Read this article this morning. It appears Bonnen may be going after some conservative members of the House. I checked websites of the first three. All three appear to be strong 2 amendment supporters, among other conservative views.

https://Sulivan went on to list the Republican legislators that were to be targeted by the requested campaign. Those include Steve Allison, Trent Ashby, Ernest Bailes, Travis Clardy, Drew Darby, Kyle Kacal, Stan Lambert, John Raney, and Phil Stephenson.

Bonnen appears to be rather hot headed. Passion is one thing, stupidity is another. Bonnen leans toward stupidity. His email said he "ran into MQS" in the Hobby airport and approached him. "It was a short and curt exchange." Yeah, probably from Bonnen. He's a typical politician and knows how to cover his... tracks.

Perhaps I'm the only one one who feels this way but many of us lamented Joe Strauss and felt like things couldn't get worse. Bonnen's response was "hold my beer."

I would bet it took many voters simply voting by hitting the "R". I also believe there are Republicans who like Democrats that feel indifferent to stricter gun laws. I believe it is common for them to feel some laws won't affect them since they don't own this or that the laws are forbidding. On top of this, look at examples like MCain. He claimed the "R" label for years and we all know he was a Rino. He was locked in by his voters.

Does it matter? The house will just put another RINO in for speaker because they don’t care. We will all be told what a great 2nd amendment supporter he is and what a great rating they have with the TSRA and NRA. I am sorry to say the rating system has bebome a joke.
The TSRA/NRA ratings are based on data, aka voting records. If representatives/senators have no record yet, the answers they provide to the NRA/TSRA questionnaire are used to determine rating, if they even respond.

The issue with the rating system is it does not tell the whole story. When bills get quietly killed in committees, members are protected from having to vote on them.
The committee chair can choose to never bring a bill up for a hearing.
Even with a hearing, the chair can let it whither and die right there.
A bill can get passed out of committee, and then die on the vine by never placing it on the calendar for a floor debate.
And EVEN if it makes it all the way thru this process in either the House of Representatives or Senate, it has to go thru the process all over again in the OTHER house.

At the end of the day, these reps/senators are then able to go home to their districts. They can claim that they have never voted against 2A legislation, or always voted in favor of any 2A legislation put before them. And there is no data to dispute that in their voting record.

It seems the Texas Rangers, at the request of the Brazoria county DA and the Texas House Committee on General Investigations, are looking into the allegations that Bonnen and Burrows tried to bribe Sullivan.

Sullivan apparently secretly recorded the meeting and provided the recording to the Rangers.
