Houston: ISD cop accused of kickback scheme

A Houston ISD police officer was arrested Wednesday on Federal charges of extortion. He is accused of pulling over drivers and having their car towed, then getting kickbacks from the tow-truck driver.

As always, allegations are not proven until the defendant has his day in court.

Wonder if his guns have been confiscated (for the safety of the children) while this plays out?

Ironic. I was helping a friend move last night, and my car was towed from its (non-reserved) parking space.

A resident told us that only residents (with a sticker on their car) could park inside the grounds after 10:00pm, which my friend hadn't heard about. He swore that other friends have parked overnight w/o problems.

I always wonder if the people responsible for calling in parking violations get kickbacks from the tow truck drivers, just like body shops give out for bringing damaged cars to them.

$218.70... OUCH

Towing is a huge scam in Houston. Property owners contract with towing companies to patrol the parking lots. The drivers, when they have nothing better to do, patrol the lots and tow cars that have 1/8 inch of tire on the dividing line, or whatever.

Until about 10 years ago they used to congregate like vultures at car crashes. Sometimes the tow-truck drivers got into fistfights. The city set up a rotating list so that wouldn't happen.

I wonder if he is still getting paid while on a federal felony indictment.

And if he has three ways to kill you. :smilelol5:

Yah!! And going into the storage facility feels like being a gladiator in 'Thunderdrome' or something.

Those places usually have all the charm of a biker bar combined with the easy-going ambiance of a dogfight.

Could you explain the relevance of that statement to this thread?

if an ISD cop were to pull me over nowhere near a school, I would be questioning their authority, and if anything seemed suspcious I would be calling 911 to report a possible fake officer and asking for municipal police or DPS.

Suit yourself, but an ISD cop is a fully certified Texas peace officer. They have the same authority as a city cop or sheriff deputy. They are not "on duty" only during school hours or near school property.

Also they have three ways to kill you. Or have I overworked that gag? ;-)

How is the public supposed to know that other than taking their word for it?

To a reasonable person, an ISD office being involved in something not related to school might seem suspicious.

I don't know. I really don't. And I think bogus and crooked cops are a significant problem.

There was a real cop here who was raping women that he stopped for traffic violations. He was convicted of kidnapping:
