NYPD maintains their record

NYPD maintains their record ... of shooting more cops and innocent bystanders than criminals.

On Saturday evening, NYPD officers were attempting to stop a deranged man who was running in front of cars in Times Square. The officers decided that it might be a good idea to shoot the man. Instead they injured two women who had the bad luck to be there. One woman was hospitalized with a broken fibula and tibia (the main bones in the lower leg).
At one point, Mr. Kelly said, the man put his hand in his pants. He then withdrew it and mimicked shooting at police officers, Mr. Kelly said, though his hand was empty. That is when the two officers opened fire. One officer fired one shot and the other fired two shots, Mr. Kelly said. Neither officer hit the man, who was later surrounded by officers, shocked with a Taser and subdued ....

You can't imagine this scene if you haven't been to Times Square or seen it in a movie or on TV (it's where they do the ball drop on New Years eve). It's a huge stretch of concrete, filled with moving vehicles, bicycles, and thousands of people on Saturday evening. You could not shoot in any direction without hitting a person or occupied vehicle, or maybe the window of a business.
