First LEO Encounter

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

First LEO Encounter

#1

Post by Pecos »

Friendly Encounter:
On the Hi Way shoulder-
My elderly Aunt & Uncle hit a deer on 281 S last night. My aunt is in a wheel chair & very sick. They called me to pick them up. When I arrived they were all OK but the car was totaled. The County Sheriff deputy& DPS Trooper arrived shortly after me. I was armed. They were very friendly. They were going to help me get my aunt into the wheel chair to move her to my truck. Working that close to a DPS & Deputy made me nervous. I would rather them know I was armed that have one of them bump into me or notice my gun. I said before we start I better show you this & handed them my lic with my CHL. I told them I was currently armed & asked them if thay wanted me to put it in the truck. the reply was...... "No problem. Leave it on, your perfectly OK " both LEOs were very humorus to help my 87 year old uncle calm down (who is quit a commedian him self). By the time the process was over we were all rolling in laughster!!!
I know not every encounter will be this smooth but I was treated with dignity & that was cool. Just though I would share this. :thumbs2:

You don't need to divulge until they ask for your identification & since you weren't suspected of any crime, they had no need to ask. You were fine not saying anything.

Working in close quarters with LEO, I probably would have said something as well.

Good encounter. Glad your relatives were okay.

When the trooper & I lifted the heavy wheel chair into the back of my truck the handle caught my jacket & lifed it to expose my gun in front of the TX Trooper. sense the trooper knew I had it it was no big deal. If I hadent said anythig I would have been jackked up at gun point!!!! This is why i told them because we were very close lifting things together. I'm not that supid to announce to every LEO. I think I did the right thing in this case!!!
I was offended but I got over it already!!!! :smilelol5:

Plus I showed him my CHL Badge!!!!! "rlol"

I would have told the LEO's I was carrying, under similar conditions.
Avoiding surprises like that helps keep things calm and friendly.

Me: "Just wanted to let you know I've got a CHL and I'm armed this evening... well, pretty much all the time  .. Didn't want to surprise you with that later."

I think you handled this perfectly.

You anticipated the fact that you were armed could become known as you worked closely together - and it did.

Since you had already shown that was OK, the officers didn't need to investigate further.

I seriously doubt you would have been jacked up or cavity searched if you hadn't offered the info up front but you successfully avoided a potentially awkward moment.

Kudos on your good judgement and an equally suitable outcome.
