2007 Renooul Skul Dates

#1

Post by Greybeard »

Came in the mail today on single page form to return by fax or mail.

July 31
August 1 7 9 14 16 21 23 28 30
Sept. 4 6 11 13 18 20
Oct. 2 4 11 16 18 23 25
Nov. 6 8 15 20 29
Dec. 6 13

Per priors, it asks for 1'st, 2"nd and 3'rd choice dates. And I suspect the August classes will fill rather quickly. My Austin daughter's bithday is August 6, so I'm leaning toward August 7 as first choice. I'm assuming they'll mail packet with more details sumtime after after forms are returned ...

Anybuddyelse out there got the form and picked a day yet?

Got mine today too. I am a bit perturbed that they are only offering Tues and Thurs. That means I have to take 2 days off from work to go! I am leaning towards a Thursday so I can take off Thursday and Friday. The sooner the better.

Anyone else have any thoughts? It would be nice if a few of us could get together and go to the same class.

With what's probably to be on my plate later in August, I went ahead and faxed my form in this morning for August 7 (1'st choice), August 1 or July 31. I've still got the "sweat wiping" towel  used at the past 5 schools.

Packet with details came in mail today. I'm in for first choice date - August 7. Routine looks pretty much the same - check-in at 0730, shoot at 0800. But, this time the agenda is showing a session back at La Quinta before lunch (Use of Force - by Derrick).

And then after lunch, it looks like Ms. O'Shaw will do "Legal Issues". If so, that will be the first time since '95, that I've seen the same lawyer there twice ...

Was that your first choice? We are going to be looking to go after 9/1, and with the new laws in effect.

Don't have our stuff sent in, much less back.

Yeah, I wanted to go in early Sept, so I 'm happy. Although, I would have been even happier if they had offered a Mon or Fri...

I do have a question about the instructions that I got. I am totally clueless what they mean here:

Handguns:
a) One revolver of at least .38 caliber. (no push off on single action will be accepted)

OK, I get the .38 caliber part. Any ideas what the rest of that means?

Push-off means that when the firearm is cocked you can push on the back of the hammer and cause it to fall, usually caused by a worn or broken sear or an improperly done trigger job. You should be able to push really hard on the hammer and not make it move off the sear.

El Gato got it. When we shot in August they were running the 'check' on every gun, making sure the guns had not been overly gunsmithed.

That's odd about the .38. though. They told us that beginning with this instructor's renewal we could qualify with the same guns as our students. .32 and a .380. Someone didn't get the message.

Well, I finally got my schedule. Has the group decided to zero in on a particular date? I see llwatson chose Sept. 6, but I have NRA committee meetings and the board meeting that week. ElGato, have you selected a date?

Chas.
