Volunteer First Responders ID

#1

Post by jmorris »

I'm planning on doing some kind of free class for volunteer first responders. I assume* there's a Texas ID for fire, ems, etc but is there anything that denotes volunteer status? Concentrating on volunteer at the moment because of the new law.

*Yeah, I know what happens.

Perhaps. I am a volunteer on a SAR team for my county. Earning membership to the team required a background check to get county Sheriff department to issue photo ID.

CERT members are also volunteer but do not have DHS ID cards.

You can buy them the same place as LTC badges.

Courage to change the things I can
And the firepower to make a difference.

I wouldn't expect to base it on a badge alone, but on an ID. I did find that at least EMS has an ID so if they did have a volunteer department badge that would work.

After all the TSAR classes, all I got was a certificate and name in database to be called

My City issues ID for CERT. "City of... ", not DHS.
Same for RACES.... "City of... Emergency Management" with ID number and expiration date.

To the OP.... You could request that students confirm eligibility by showing an official ID or by providing a letter from an officer of their organization on organization letterhead. Dear OP, this letter is to confirm that Jane Doe is a member of CERT/VFD/etc. for the City of .... . Sincerely, Jack Straw, Secretary.

Yes, this is the way I'm thinking I'm going to go.
