Dallas Morning News Rejects all Gun & Gun Show Ads

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

Here is an email I received from a friend. He received it from gun show promoters who, until now, advertised in the Dallas Morning News. For you folks in 214 country, remember this when subscribing to a paper or advertising. Remember also to mention this to companies you trade with who advertise in the DMN.

Dealers,

We want you to be aware of a change we were forced
to make in our advertising.

Yesterday we were notified by the Dallas Morning
News that effective immediately the newspaper would no
longer publish any advertising for any gun show. This
includes display, classified and on-line advertising.
According to the paper, no ad can have the words "gun
show" in it.

We were told this was a decision that came directly
from the publisher. We contacted the NRA and were told that
unfortunately many newspapers were making this decision and
in lawsuits the newspapers won because they are private
entities and can pick and choose their advertisers.

For the show this weekend, we were not given enough
notice to redirect our advertising dollars. Therefore, in
the Dallas Morning News only, our name is -- Original Fort
Worth Hunting and Outdoor Show. We will be looking at how
to deal with this dilemma for our future shows'
advertising.

When you are subscribing to a newspaper, you may
want to think about this.

Thank you very much for your continued
support,

Tim and Michelle

If it wasn't for the abundant coupons in the paper saving me $$$, I would drop my subscription.

Maybe I will stop buying Charmin and use the Dallas Morning News instead. :evil2:

I heard this when I was at the Original FTW show this last weekend. It is truly disturbing that they can't have ads for gun shows... However, they evidently can have ads for no controversial items such as "gay marriage," "escort services," and "sexual dysfunction"

Personally I have not bought a copy of that rag in about 10 years.

I have to say, the DMN is even more of a fishwrap than the California paper I used to read when I lived there, the San Francisco Chronicle. Imagine THAT.

Worse than the paper of record for San Francisco.

The Dallas Morning News is owned by Belo Corporation that also operates television stations around the country. In Dallas it is ABC channel 8. In Houston it is CBS Channel 11. You may want to contact the advertisers on these stations and let them know that you will not be purchasing any of their products due to the stations editorial positions. When I moved from the delivery area of the DMN many years ago I only used the paper as a bird cage liner. My cockatoo turned liberal and I had to sell it. I loved it too much to shoot it. :smilelol5:

"Original Fort Worth Hunting and Projectile Launching Apparatus Show"

Community papers are going under left and right. Large city papers are at the mercy of their larger advertisers. One of their major left wing oriented accounts probably threatened to pull their add pages due to gun show advertising.
