Fiber optic or tritium front sight

I saw some Dawson Precision sights this weekend and like the way they looked so I am planning on ordering some. I am getting the plain black rear sight but not sure on which front sight. In daylight the red fiber optic looked great. I am not sure how it would be in lowlight conditions though. I don't always carry a flashlight so I am leaning towards the tritium. Anyone have any suggestions? I know there are some good sights out there but Dawson is in central Texas and I like to spend my money locally when possible.

+10 from me. The TFO sights are AWESOME! They are made locally and I have been trying to get them to make them for the Springfield 1911's.

I have a friend who sent two slides up and had them installed. They did a great job and had the slides back to him within a week.

I have sent 2 sets of TFOs for my 1911 back to the company for replacement as they went dim or dead within a very short time. When I got the 2nd set back from them I sold it in the package and took my loss. Nice when they work, short life span in my experience. The company rep I talked to on the phone said they have a 2 year expected life span and for once I was able to find my receipt and show just a few months from time of purchase.

I like the sight picture on these a lot, but the front sight (which was installed by a gunsmith) lasted only a few months (less than 1000 rounds). The company replaced it under warranty, but I installed a set of Trijicon tritium only sights instead. They last 10+ years and I've never had a sight failure with them.

I'll eventually put the TruGlo set on another gun and give them another try.

Now I read this right after I bought a set. i will give em a shot (ill just keep the receipt) and if they dont work out I will move onto the tritium only.

I had no idea they had such a short life span. The night sights on two of my 1911s are over 8 years old. They are dimmer than when new, but still functional. I hate to hear this.

BTW, did you have them on a Kimber?

They used to advertise them for 1911s, and I had my gunsmith order a set. My gun sat at his place for weeks waiting for them only to find out that they did not yet make the ones advertised on their web site, and had no intention of doing so. Then the language advertising them disappeared from their web site.

I like the TruGlo TFO's and have them on two guns. But, for competition use, I prefer a plain black rear and a red fiber optic front sight. The tritium is nice but I found out the hard way that the white ring around the tritium does not help when shooting steel plates that are painted white.

I am thinking about the same setup but wasn't sure about how the red front is in a low light situation.
