Yeah, I am still with the bigger or faster or both crowd but then again I shoot about 6-7 times a month now and I assume the average gun owner shoots a lot less. I wish I could shoot every day after work but I can't afford that. One things for sure the cost is making me shoot my 9mms more. That said, I totally agree that the 9mm is a better route to go then a .40 for almost everybody. It is much easier to become proficient with a 9mm. Most people or LEO for that matter doesn’t even train enough to master the .40. That is why so many are going back to the 9mm in LEO. Many are having problems qualifying from what I hear.

Just went to the range today and I was amazed at how many people where shooting 9mm and were all over the place at 7-10 yards. I actually stepped back from my stall and watch them. They were doing 12 inch groups! There are definitely a lot of new to handguns people who are just getting into them for the first time at the ranges. I was shooting my 10mm better then all the other people on my lane except the guy on the end shooting a 22lr. Of course when I pulled out my P95 I would dump the whole mag quickly and make it all in a 6inch circle very quickly. The guy next to me was with his wife and said "nice shooting" I said thanks but what I didn't tell him was that it was only my 3rd time to shoot my P95.

I assume at some point I will take some professional training or join matches because no matter how hard I try I can’t shoot as good as these IDPA shooters. They make it look so easy. Every round touches each other, I am jealous.

Even though I like my Glock 27 I think I am going to get a 9mm barrel for it. The cost of shooting for me is like a car payment every month even in 9mm!

17 dollars each range visit plus 140-340 dollars a month in ammo! That's at least 240 a month minimum.

I cast my own bullets and reload. My 9mm cost is about $2.50 per hundred rounds.

If I could even get it down to 8 dollars per hundred for brass 9mm ammo I would love it. I am seriously thinking about starting to reload but I honestly have no experience with the stuff or know anybody who reloads. I am thinking about looking in to it for a Christmas gift when my loved ones ask me what I want for Christmas.

It sounds like you should join a range as a member and save some of the range fees for as much as you shoot. I would also contact a reloading company and see if they could give you a brake on a couple of cases of reloaded 9mm ammo to save some cost. I am a little gun shy (literally) about reloading my self. I think someone wanting to take on that hobby should get some instruction from an individual with experience first.
