Newb Seeks Range/Shooting Advice

Post by Kadelic »

I love the forum so far and have been trying to absorb as much knowledge as I can. Based on a post I made in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=53277 another member suggested I start this thread. I'm new to firearms and handguns in general and am currently waiting on my CHL. I'm very keen on safety and responsibility and really want to get some quality range experience in while (and after) I wait for my application to be processed. I'm 43 years old and live in Duncanville, about 30 miles south of Dallas. The two ranges I've been to are Bullseye http://www.bullseyerandg.com/ and Great Southwest Gun http://www.greatsouthwestgun.com/

If any of y'all frequent either of these ranges, or any other public or private ranges in the area, I would be more than happy to trade ammo, lunch, or whatever seems fair for some advice on technique, general gun handling, and/or sharing any sort of real world experience relating to CC and SD scenarios. The major limitation to scheduling a meeting is that I work nights, so we would have to start about the time the above mentioned ranges open, at 10/11 AM. Weekends are more flexible but the earlier the better.

Thanks for any and all consideration.

:tiphat: If I was in your area I'd set something up.

The good news is we have lots of DFW members. Hopefully one of them will have the time to meet up with you. Good luck, and congrats on both your interest in CHL and your desire to learn more.

Welcome to the forum and good luck on your CHL. I am familiar with Bullseye as I have shot there when I visit my daughter in Grand Prairie; not familiar with GSW. I'm sure some of the great TxCHL members will help you out. You also might check with the ranges to see if they offer classes in pistol handling and shooting skills. It's always great to hear someone wants to do more than what's required to get their CHL.

i'm curious to see if anyone recommends some good classes in dfw. Most of what i've seen is either very basic handgun classes or advanced defensive stuff.

never been to bullseye but i just went to great southwest and really liked it.

I only met Phil Ryan of TCCI at a gun show in Ft Worth with my daughter's father in law who took his CHL at TCCI. He was very complimentary regarding Mr. Ryan. He is also a Galco dealer and makes some of the area gun shows. I spoke with him on the phone when I got home to Houston about some other Galco products and he was very accomodating.
