Pricing mistakes

Post by Superman »

So here's a general question that I can't really find an answer to. Wondering if anyone here has better Google-fu than me.

So I bought some ammo online. It appears that the pricing was wrong but they didn't notify me of the pricing error and decided to just ship it to me anyway (at a MUCH higher price). Being ammo, this is also "non-returnable." I understand that mistakes happen and I'm not saying they should be held to the price that was in error, but I thought their right was to not fulfill the order (i.e. only cancel the order). They should have had to notify me of the error with the option to keep the order at the different (correct) price, or cancel the order. Is that correct? I genuinely bought the ammo thinking it was some crazy good holiday sale and they were trying to get rid of some final inventory or something. I would not have bought the ammo at the price I apparently paid for it and if they would have notified me of the error, I would have simply canceled...no big deal. Now it's a big deal though.

I always thought that companies had the right to cancel any orders with errors, not unilaterally change the order to whatever they want ("whatever they want" because I didn't know the correct price before I placed the order, so it is arbitrary from my perspective, they could have chosen anything). Anyone know what my options are?

You bought at price A, they charged you at price B without notifying you.
Simple solution: Charge it back to them. If they'd like the ammo back, they can pay for shipping.

Yea, the right thing to do would have been to ask. Credit cards give consumers lots of power..

Especially if you have an order confirmation at the price you thought you were paying.

That's just dirty. I'd go through my CC company and tell them what happened and see if they can get it taken care of for you.

I agree with the other posts. I had something like this happen at Sportsmans guide. They tried to ship it at the more expensive price but I happened to be on my computer when they sent the email saying shipped at $$$$ amount. I immediately called them and they had not technically shipped yet. The orderes were waiting for pick up or some such excuse. They canceled the order per my request. It kind of made me mad that they would do this.

I wasn't so lucky. My receipt doesn't have the quantity changed (they shipped me less rounds for the same price). I had no idea until it showed up at my door (or didn't show up, rather).

I buy a lot of bulk US made ammo online when its available. I can now avoid Sportsmans Guide completely. (03Lightningrocks experience)

I hope you will post the company so we can all avoid them or at least be aware of the "scam" they may be running.

Look under the good deals on ammo thread.....

I to bought 1000rds 7.62x39 for $5.74 +about 13 bucks for shipping - my printed order confirmation shows the price and quantity

Waiting to see what shows up - or see if they call me

Paid Amex so if they try to charge any more then what I paid I'll dispute the charge

I believe this was an honest mistake, rather than to try to trick or defraud.

I can't find the previous thread, but they have since, changed their advertisement.

Sportsmans Guide.. I think they had made a mistake on pricing and had no intention of honoring it. I was only bothered that they didn't ask me first.

My order was indeed from Cheaper Than Dirt. It was not the same ammo as the other thread (not 7.62). Mine was for some 12 gauge 8-shot ammo. So that's why I'm wondering if this is a common occurrence of them. Two separate products all within less than a week...with the same kind of "typo." I ordered mine last Thursday.

If your receipt shows x number of rounds for y dollars, and they shipped you less than x rounds, then they did not deliver the product for which you paid. Contact them and give them the opportunity to correct it. If they don't, dispute it with the credit company. If you submit to the receipt showing x and y with an invoice showing less-than-x and y, you have a pretty solid case.

That's what I was thinking too. I do have a receipt showing z boxes of x rounds for y dollars. I'll post an update when I get one. We will see what happens.
