When my uncle passed away (naturally, not suicide) my grandfather took my uncle's two handguns to the local PD. I'm not sure what they did with them after that, but I was sure upset that they were not given to me or at least given the option to buy them before he just gave them away. I did get his 12 gauge though and still have it. Unless it is inoperable, it breaks my heart to see a gun destroyed. I guess I understand if it gives her some closure though.

This. I don't know where the lady lives but, The local Police Dept's that destroy guns take them to the local Steel Mill and they add them to the mix when making rebar etc. An officer friend of mine was the OIC of destruction and was telling me of having to melt down a beautiful Browning OU shotgun.

Someone asked me the same thing 15 years ago when I was attending my first CHL class though it was a completely different reason. He had a gun he claimed was worn out and didn't want to put it in the trash. I told hem I would take it off if his hands and when we took a break for lunch he went home and got it. Turns out it was a Ruger Mark I built in the late 50's. I took it apart and found a $3 spring that was mangled so I ordered a replacement along with spare magazine and now I've got a fairly nice shooter for about $30. :anamatedbanana
My guns won't be illegal, they'll be undocumented. :thumbs2:

Seems like nothing a 10 minute and a sledge hammer couldn't take care of.
:iagree:

10 minutes in some coals and one smack with a hammer and it's all over but the crying :cryin

As a side note; My brother committed suicide. Although tragic, none of us ever blamed the gun. My dad kept it because it was a memento left behind by my brother.
