Let it slam forward. Didn't have slide locked back & depress lock.

I have a Ruger SR commander. It has close to 1000 rounds through it flawlessly. No front sight issues either. I did have it at a smith for some sear work, though it wasn't "needed". I will be buying the 5" very soon. For the price point, they can't be beat. Plus they are made in America.

It still could be mag related but let us know what you find out either by trying different mags and or sending it back to Ruger

Small problem... It WON'T chamber a round even though it cocks ok. Ammo is correct. Same issue with both Ruger magazines that came with it.

It's depressing... :(

Any ideas on what the problem is or MY problem???
Thanks,

Bill
Can you post a picture of the problem and the problem ammo please? 1911s can take a bit of break in, especially those that are tight. Lube is your friend. I am from the "nearly impossible to use too much oil" camp. You can easily lube a 1911 without stripping it.

Nothing a picture would show. I use high quality ammo in my guns. Hard to break it in, if it won't load in first place...lol.

Have you field stripped the pistol and lubricated it?

I'm assuming it strips the top round from the mag and then hangs up before the round goes into the chamber. Will it finish chambering if you bump the back of the slide?

One other thing... make sure you're not "riding the slide" down. "Slingshot" the slide closed.
It won't even strip the first round. Not riding the slide down...pull back & let it slam forward.

This is why a picture, or at least a better description than "won't load" would be helpful.

So the slide comes forward and just stops when it hits the back of the top round? If that's the case, then I suspect someone installed the wrong recoil spring. Either that or it's completely missing.

if it is used could have build up on feed ramp and if used the mag springs could be worn just a theory

It is a new 1911 out of the box. There is no way I'd ever buy a handgun, rifle, or shotgun used...unless mine got stolen and no new ones were available anywhere... :patriot: Never know where or what or who has had the used gun.

Anyway, the slide doesn't even catch the first round.

UPDATE: I took gun and magazines back to the dealer this morning. The owner checked the magazines, slide action, etc. Determined that the slide hadn't been back FAR enough!! He loaded and fired off 3 rounds in his ballistics room with no problem! I will try again here and report back my findings.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments!!

just pull the slide till it locks back on a empty mag then remove mag and load it and put it back in and depress slide lock to chamber a round to avoid the not pulling it back enough scenario
