Sorry for being lazy - private interstate transfer

Sorry, at work right now or else i would research this.

My sister lives in PA and im here in TX, she is trying to trade her PT709 for a Shield 9 but shes going to get ripped off. Trade in value for a 200 dollar Taurus isnt great. Id rather just buy it from her for a fair price.

What is the safest way to transfer the firearm to me? Im thinking have her go to an FFL to ship it to my FFL, but we would be paying two FFL fees right?

Can she just use USPS or FedEx to ship it to my FFL?

She can UPS it to your FFL, but she has to declare it to UPS. Some will take it. Others won't. Do not ship ammo in the same package.

:iagree:

Ship it from your sister direct to TX FFL

..... OR.....

If she/you can find an FFL in PA that will do the work for a low cost, the PA FFL should be able to ship via USPS at less cost than via UPS. Possible that might work out cheaper, depending on the PA FFL cost.

She can use any common carrier that will accept the shipment, Fed Ex, UPS, etc.
The shipment must be to an FFL in your state of residence. No other restrictions.

Nothing to add other than to say that the PT709 is a very good little gun. I had one that I really liked, but ultimately sold it to finance my Kahr PM9. That Taurus is definitely worth more than $200, IMHO.

USPS? I didn't think that private citizens could use the US Postal Service to ship a gun to an FFL - have I misunderstood this?

An FFL can legally choose whichever carrier they want.
Federal law permits FFL holders (private citizens) to use the US Postal Service to mail handguns. Non-FFL holders (most private citizens) are not permitted this convenience. USPS is frequently the least expensive, but for various reasons not always the best choice.

Both Fed Ex and UPS require it to be sent overnight (IIRC), while USPS can only be used by an FFL. Thus, she'll either have to ship through an FFL for USPS rates, or shell out big bucks for one of the other two. I'd be willing to bet with a little research on your part you could find an FFL local to here that would charge a minimal fee ($25-40) to process and ship it. Then you're just left with the transfer fee on your end.

Alliance Arsenal will do the xfer to 10 here. I hope an ffl for her to ship through is cheaper than ups/fedex, its a 200 dollar pistol, would kill the margin with shipping fees. Hoping to net at least 150 to her on it, so we have about 50 to work with.
