I had a $40 gift certificate with Optics Planet and was intending to use it for a clip and some other goodies.
It's a shame that the laws of their state have an influence on their business. I wouldn't stop doing business with a company due to circumstances out of their control. Except trying to buy items they can't stock of course.
Now the being informed of a back order AFTER you order is another thing. So far, I haven't experienced this. Everything I've ordered that was "in stock" was indeed in stock.

What if the owners themselves have roots they don't want to move?Abraham wrote:Many times companies move with the 'proviso' they'll pay to help employees move with them. They too could do this rather than stating words that add up to: "Hey, it's not our fault we operate in a socialist type (read corrupt) state." They've chosen to stay.
Staying in a state of political corruption only helps the economy of that state.
Until they move, I won't be buying from anymore.
It's simply the wrong thing to do to penalize a company for existing in a location that leans anti-gun.
How far do you take this personal choice? And how seriously do you take it?
Do you do business with any companies in California? Do you own an HP printer, an Apple iPhone?
How about these companies that are all based in Silicon Valley LINK? Do you own any of their stuff? Do you shop in their Texas retail locations?
How gun-unfriendly does the location have to be to qualify for your boycott?
Do you ever visit Austin? Would you do business with a company based in Austin?
I stopped doing business with CTD due to that companys' behavior (price gouging, IMO). The notion that we should stop doing business with an otherwise gun-friendly business that has limits imposed on them by their chosen location and decides not to relocate (for whatever reason) is simply ridiculous.
Come on... Seriously. I'll make this my last comment in this thread...

I'm really starting to question why I, or anyone else, has need for a 30 round magazine for hunting, target shooting or home protection?

Especially when Magpul makes forty round magazines.

Although I agree with the sentiment and wish all companies 2A related would leave hostile states, I know it's a pipe dream.Abraham wrote:Many times companies move with the 'proviso' they'll pay to help employees move with them. Having been in the business of moving people, I can tell you it's a whole lot more expensive than most realize. And if you had more than a few people to move- a company might not be able to justify or afford it.
Re: Buh-Bye Optics Planet
I don't understand why you are arguing the "need" issue. Technically the 2ndA is not about hunting, target shooting or home protection. I know that you know that already.Oldgringo wrote:I'm really starting to question why I, or anyone else, has need for a 30 round magazine for hunting, target shooting or home protection?
Re: Buh-Bye Optics Planet
I get it, in this modern world where the Internet of Things is all things we all search for the absolute cheapest price. And I am also guilty of this at times. However as I “age” “mature” “ripen” with age I find that I would much rather help neighbors. I have found that most times I can source from a local shop within a small margin the same prices I could from some poor slob behind enemy lines. I don’t neccesarily have anything against Optics Planet here, but I’ll be darned if ANY of my money is going to Crook County or IL period. That’s mi dos centavos and your kilometers may vary.
Old Gringo, I recognize you’re trying to kickstart my high blood pressure with that blanket statement. But we all full well know that when the 2nd was written ALL firearms were “military grade” so it’s a moot point. Nice try and I did need the spike to make sure my Fitbit was registering;g accurately anyway.

The 2nd Amendment was formulated by a bunch of guys armed with muzzle loading rifles against another bunch of much better equipped guys also armed with muzzle loading weapons....after many battles, a long time ago. It was about Freedom and Independence, etc. We need to be very careful how we use the 2nd Amendment as our shield for truth and justice. Otherwise, we'll have it shoved up our uh....noses.

I can't believe the things I'm reading on this forum today. Never would have thought there would be people on here okay with magazine limits. Owner of X-products too? I guess some of y'all are unfamiliar with the phrase "shall not be infringed."

Like Springfield Armory?bblhd672 wrote:A better response is to not do business with any company based in Illinois.
I see the sense of what you’re saying, but I think it is self defeating. My hope is that companies like Springfield will eventually see the light and move their facilities to states with more gun-friendly environments. I believe that, given enough time, this will eventually happen.

You are familiar with the political problems Springfield Armory has been involved with? Many people said they would no longer do business with them. The Annoyed Man wrote:Like Springfield Armory?bblhd672 wrote:A better response is to not do business with any company based in Illinois.

As far as Optics Planet, I have a scope that has been back ordered 2 months now. They have never contacted me about shipment.

I buy/spend where I choose.
From now on I'll be on the lookout for the state I'm buying from.
If I discover I'm buying from a blue state I'll go elsewhere.

That's why I avoid online places with operations in Texas. Damned sales tax! I don't know why our laws are set to put Texan sellers at a disadvantage.Abraham wrote:I buy/spend where I choose.

100% agree on your sentiment. Who am I to judge how you spend your money? You're free to do what you please as long as it does not infringe on my own rights to freedom. Same goes to manufacturers and vendors.Abraham wrote:I buy/spend where I choose.

Optics Planet's stance is (paraphrased), "we'll abide by local/state/federal laws, no matter how much it'll hurt us." Fine. They're taking a passive stance by following the law. That's not enough in my books to blacklist them. What this means is that I will probably never do business with them due to their smaller inventory. In fact, I've never done business with them before. Not because of anything political, but because of their inventory and price. When I buy stuff, I usually buy en masse. Which means combining items into large orders and making as few transactions as possible while saving money. Typically, I can find the optics for the same price or cheaper at Brownells or Midway. Since they both have a larger selection of goods, it's easier to order through them than through Optics Planet. Local b&m stores within 5% margin? Then I go there. I go wherever there's good customer service and price. I prioritize local businesses, but I can only do so much. Now if Optics Planet moved, and their selection becomes much larger because of it, then they may end up getting my business after all.
For the likes of Springfield/RRA, well, that's a different story. They claimed they were not aware of what they passively agreed to with the legislation a year ago. They also pulled out of the IMFA, the ones who made the deal with the state of Illinois. That is enough for me to keep them off my blacklist as well. But I'll be honest. I still haven't spent any money on either of them since the debacle. And I probably never will. Their guns just don't do anything to entice me.
