I am not worried in the least bit about being humane to an animal attacking me or my family. period.

Great... so if you kill or cause serious bodily injury to a domestic animal that is attacking you, you get a state jail felony and the owner who failed to secure/train/whatever the dog gets at most a class C. Amazing.
