Weirdo on the loose (FL)
If you're drinking something, finish it before reading.

August 26, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida (Jacksonville area), a woman was awakened at 3 a.m. by something touching her foot. She discovered a man wearing only a backward baseball cap. He fled the house before she could awaken her husband.
Similar incidents occurred in the area last year.
What a nutcase.

check this out, got it in my university mailbox a few days ago. I'll post the initial problem, the follow up, and just now the resolution came in.

Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Sexual Assault
On November 1, 2006, at approximately 05:54 a.m., a female victim
reported to the College Station Police Department that a man had entered
her bedroom and attempted to sexually assault her. Within minutes of
arriving on scene, officers found that two other attempted sexual
assaults had occurred at the same apartment complex at around the same
time. All three female victims reside at 305 Marion Pugh Drive
(Callaway Villas Apartments).
The victims reported that they were asleep and awoke to find the actor
in their bed partially undressed with his genitals exposed. They
reported that the male was also attempting to remove portions of their
clothing. It appears that all three incidents occurred within a 45
minute time frame. When the victims discovered the actor in their bed,
they began to scream and ordered the actor to leave. The actor fled the
scene in each instance and none of the victims were injured. There was
no forced entry found in any of the instances and it appears that the
actor probably entered the apartments through unlocked front doors and
then entered the females' bedrooms through unlocked bedroom doors.
Later in the day, the College Station Police Department was notified of
a sexual assault that occurred the same morning at approximately 04:00
a.m. at the same location. The College Station Police believe this was
the first incident at this location."
Then the update:
"The College Station Police Department advises that there are a total of
nine reported offenses related to the original incident. Investigators
confirmed that one victim was actually sexually assaulted. In other
related reports, the suspect entered an apartment without permission and
attempted to sexually assault one of the residents. The suspect also
entered other apartments uninvited and persons inside the apartments
told him to leave. In these cases, he left without incident.
In one related report, the suspect entered the victim's apartment as a
guest of a resident. The suspect used the name of "Marcus." It is not
known if "Marcus" is the suspect's real name. The resident allowed the
suspect into the apartment. During his time there, the suspect
attempted to sexually assault the victim."
And finally the resolution today:
"UPDATE: Callaway Villas Apartments
Burglary of a Habitation with intent to commit Sexual Assault (six
counts)
Criminal Trespass (three counts)
CAPTURED
Arrested: Marcus Anthony Wilson
22 years of age
On November 2, 2006, an officer with the College Station Police
Department recognized the person rendered in the artist sketch as
possibly Marcus Anthony Wilson. On November 3, 2006, one of the victims
viewed a photograph line-up and positively identified Wilson as the
person who unlawfully entered his apartment. Detectives from the
College Station Police Department were able to obtain a warrant for
Wilson's arrest for the offense of "criminal trespass in a habitation."
At approximately 01:07 a.m., November 4, 2006, officers working in the
Northgate area located Wilson inside a bar. He was positively
identified and placed under arrest for the warrant. After Wilson was
transported from the area, a female approached the officers and stated
that the person arrested was the same person she had found in her
bedroom on November 1, 2006. Detectives were able to obtain warrants
for six counts of "burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sexual
assault." An original charge for "sexual assault" was changed to the
higher offense and charge, "burglary of a habitation with intent to
commit sexual assault." Bond has been set at $150,000 for each offense
for a total bond of $900,000.
Burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sexual assault is a first
degree felony punishable by life imprisonment or for any term of not
more than 99 years or less than 5 years and a fine not to exceed
$10,000."

This just boggles my mind. Three attempts in the same building within 45 minutes, and the police weren't already on the scene? The first two didn't call 911?Will938 wrote:The victims reported that they were asleep and awoke to find the actor

Of course, I'm really amazed that he was still alive for the other attempts, but this is college.

Locks are a good idea. Apartment renters often are not allowed to install them, or don't know how and can't afford a locksmith.
Pepper spray and the type of burglar alarm that is suitable for apartments and hotel rooms are cheap enough to be impulse items.
I wonder if this thug will turn out to have a master key? I work for a company that seems, on the surface, to have security comparable to the Pentagon; but all the janitors have master keys, and they aren't even employees of the company.
