Hewitt: Man accidentally kills self

#1

Post by seamusTX »

In Hewitt (Waco area) Friday afternoon a man was unloading a bag from his truck when a "gun went off," fatally shooting him in the chest.

The lack of detail is frustrating. This is the only story on the web.

Story is fishy. was it a rifle, a handgun? Modern pistol should not discharge if dropped.

Maybe he just had it loose in the bag (pistol), something got through the trigger guard and recoil caused more than one shot... I heard about an LEO type that hung their weapon by the trigger guard on the bathroom stall hook, apparently it was pretty exciting as the gun spun firing until the mag emptied

Why a gun should never just be tossed in a purse or tote without being in a pocket holster! Better yet, being in a holster in a "gun only" pocket of the purse/tote.

Most people are notoriously poor witnesses. It could have been one shot that echoed off a wall.

It is pretty difficult to imagine more than one shot being fired accidentally.

I'm thinking instant death from one shot indicates a rifle, though anything is possible. Many old shotguns are subject to bump fire.

I know this locaiton. There is a gun shop and a pawn shop there, so him taking guns out of his vehicle would not be unusual. The folks at the gun store are really good people.

Sadly, this guy was a trauma doctor.

Whatever happened, it can't be blamed on lack of IQ or youthful misjudgment.

I'll bet most dispatchers say shots fired, when they dispatch a call to officers, whether it is one shot or many shots.
