Beware of self proclaimed experts!

#1

Post by steveincowtown »

I was in VA during the past week and had a chance to go shoot with my brother at a private range that he is a member of. We arrived at the range a little after lunch and began our usual routine of trying to out shoot each other. Unfortunately, he typically wins.

This was my first time to shoot this particular MSR since a particularly bad experience at DFW airport.

viewtopic.php?f=23&t=60535" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For whatever reason, I could barely keep it on the paper, much less on target. The RSO noticed I was having trouble and offered to sight everything back in for me. I have struggled with this in the past so I gladly accepted his help.

He looked at my target and started spewing knowledge. After about 80 rounds and an hour later he was no closer to having the rifle sighted in then I was when I go there.

Not sure if his intentions were good or not, but he certainly had a bit of fun at my expense. $50 worth of ammo gone as well as an hour of my life I'll never get back.

Anyway---beware of self proclaimed experts. Next time I will pass on the "extra" help....

EXPERT (X SPURT) - - - EX = Former - - - spurt = a drip under pressure = EXPERT a former drip under pressure. :thumbs2:

In business, an expert is anyone more than 50 miles away from their office, and has a brief case.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

I tend to offer help from time to time but i would have stopped shooting your ammo after 10 rounds.

I heard almost the same definition:

EXPERT -- I heard it EX - a has-been
SPURT - a constant drip....

It is my understanding that in the military it is expected that an AR15 (whatever the military version is ) must be sighted in with no more than 15 rounds. Mine was dead on right out of the box. I too would like to be an "expert" using your ammo.

M16A2 is the select-fire US Army rifle...unless they've all transitioned to the M4, but I don't think that's the case. I used the M16A2 and M249 until I got out in late 2005.

I'm going to have to raise my rate.

That was actually on old line - today it's over $200/hr.

Easiest way to sight in an AR15 is to remove the bolt carrier group and supporting the upper receiver look down the barrel, then align the crosshairs/red dot on the target where the center of the barrel is aligned, that will get you really close on paper and can dial it in from there
It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them
