The Great 2020 primer shortage, explained

From Powder Valley:
A Massive Increase in Demand
Like any other product in a market economy, primers are subject to the whims of supply and demand. As far as demand is concerned, a perfect storm of factors has caused a run on the ammo market like we’ve never quite seen before. A mix of the Covid-19 pandemic, civil unrest, and the possibility of an anti-2nd amendment President and Senate has caused demand to skyrocket. The pandemic specifically has incentivized shooters to learn how to reload their own ammo.

More like firearm, primer, powder, brass, bullet, pistol ammo, rifle ammo, rim fire ammo and anything firearm related shortage. Cant even find 243, 308, 270 calibers these days much less new ones like 6.5 PRC. My wholesaler seem to consistently have 454 Casull for some reason, maybe it’s the least popular caliber. I hand load that so I don’t use factory ammo.

Thanks to my son I loaded 100rds of 5.56, he found the brass, the bullets and the primers, I already had the powder, so now we split the ammo 50/50

Placed an order for 3.5 K of 9mm , 2k of 40 S&W and 2k of 45 ACP back in Nov. The 40's arrived 2 weeks ago. The 9's should be here in May and 45' s Jun or July. Might place another order and wait for it arrive. I found trading is more fun, less expensive than buying. My wife made lunch for our pistol matches at the club. For some reason the guys liked her.

Good FMJ - 9mm 115's and 124's in stock. Still a few weeks to ship due to backlog but I ordered in stock 45's from RMR 3 weeks ago and got them on monday. They have been buying and reselling these so these in stock bullets are more expensive than what RMR makes but they are good and stillonly 11 cents each, by the 1k.

https://www.rmrbullets.com/product-cate ... l/9mm-355/

Here are 147's in stock... berry's plated bullets. 10 cents each limit 2k/.

I was looking through gunbroker yesterday and searched for primers. There appears to be primers for sale there, but at really high prices. Admittedly, if one includes a hazmat fee a few of the single package unit items would be close to a decent price. If it is still on top of the unit price then it's really high. The larger orders seemed to be the same unit price multiplied by 5 or whatever the total count multiplies out to.
