New To RELoading First Batch

#1

Post by MrP3D »

Dear sirs,

I am just started out in reloading bullets.
I am using Aliant powder unique.
I am using your laser cast 45 acp 230 grain .451 diameter bullet.
I am using cci large pistol primer 300.
I am using once fired Winchester brass.
Consulting several reloading books I am thinking of starting out with 5.6 grains of powder.
And an overall case and bullet length of 1.26” .
Is my thinking correct or at least on the right track?

Thanks,
Ray Parker III

Definitely right track.

I load a 200 grain lead semi-wadcutter over 5.5 grains of Unique, at 1.250" COL, for a 1911.

The load you list certainly is a safe load.

Have fun!

Andrew

Sounds good you did not mention what powder that is the most important aspect. I like Bullseye for 45 ACP also when you purchase once fired brass read carefully to make sure you are not getting brass that utilizes small primers 45 ACP is manufactured with large and small primers. Small primer 45 brass loads and shoots just fine but the brass will end up getting mixed in with the large primer brass and this creates a problem when seating the primers.
A good Source for 45 ACP Once FIred Brass (large Primer) Is http://reddragonbrass.com
Reload Often and shoot when you can.

Most important factor is how are you measuring and dropping the powder. Make sure it is consistent measure the first 10 powder loads, and if you go down 0.1 or 0.2 grs there is no harm with that and it would less recoil and safer load.
